The Nature of the Protocol
Protocol Berg 2023 · 15 Sept 2023 · 25:35
Laura Lotti, Sam Hart, and Toby Shorin examine what a protocol actually is as a social and technical object, at Protocol Berg 2023, building on their prior writing about governance design and the informal norms that shape formal onchain rules. The talk pushes back on treating protocols purely as code, arguing their behavior depends as much on community culture and mechanism design as on technical specification.
