Withdrawals #1: What do node operators need to do? A broad overview
EthStaker Special Events · November 2020 · 3:20
This EthStaker Special Events session gives node operators a broad overview of what Ethereum's validator withdrawals require of them, from updating withdrawal credentials to monitoring which validators qualify for automatic sweeps. It walks through the operational checklist for keeping validators compliant once staked ETH becomes withdrawable, distinguishing routine partial withdrawals from a full validator exit. The talk situates these mechanics within Ethereum's proof-of-stake consensus and the shift toward liquid staked ETH.

all right um is there Ben is there anything else from the um from the client perspective or um anything else that like solo validators should be worrying about for um for withdrawals and for this Fork yeah so I think the main thing is this credential change right so you know for most users so the two hundred thousand have the Xerox zero one credits you really it's just going to happen completely automatically and and you know just check your reform account balance at some stage and you'll you'll see that the the balance going up it so those of us who have old credentials the zeros zero zero zero BLS credentials uh we need to do this extra step before we become eligible for withdrawals and you know until we do that then everything
continues as it does now with all of our rewards accruing on the beacon chain um and growing there um so that involves digging out our withdrawal key you know from when we made our deposit which might be like two and a half years ago now um so you've got to dig up your mnemonic um and then you've got to sign a transaction to change to an ethereum normal ethereum address um and there are a number of concerns around this I mean you know some people will have lost their mnemonics um and basically that's game over there's nothing nothing can be done and I've lost an extra just vanished um yeah I'll press on regardless um
so you know like losing any ethereum key you're done for they're a small number who believe that their keys may have been compromised somebody may have stolen their keys and there's um and what you need to do in that case is to get your uh credential change message in before any attacker who may have your key because they're going to be racing you to try to switch to their eth address rather than than you switching to yours and so there is an effort the clwp um lost consensus lost withdrawal I can't remember but like what it stands for c c wlp um lwp project uh check them out they'll be around on East daker if you are
concerned that your withdrawal key has been compromised as it might have been fished or something like that then they will help you try to get your change message in at the earliest opportunity they've got relationships with some big staking operations who have offered to you know um broadcast these these messages in in the very first blocks of uh after the upgrade for the rest of us who are pretty confident that the keys are secure I'm going to wait for a few weeks maybe even a few months before I do the upgrade um just because as you know not in desperate hurry to get my Eve um I'm just going to let it sit there and let the dust settle because we've got these
300 000 Prudential changes quite stressful for the network just going to let that happen and come in a bit later after it's calmed down and uh and uh issue my my message I'm really glad to hear you say that because I I kind of took the same approach like I don't need the stress of doing that as soon as the fork happens so I appreciate hearing you say that it's okay to wait a few months because I'm just gonna sit back and watch like it's not going anywhere exactly
