SOTS #17: Final Launch prep, Viewing calls, and claiming POAPs

hey eatstakers uh today is uh november 30th 2020. uh i'm superfiz and we are about 18 hours away from the ethereum beacon chain launch and this is just the most exciting time i can imagine i wasn't this excited before the first ethereum chain launch so what we're looking for is this beacon chain is the first phase of several phases to implement a scaling solution for ethereum and so tomorrow when we launch this chain we won't actually have the scaling solution ready what we'll have is a strong foundation to build from over the next year or two to implement a much larger larger

scaling solution uh that depends on the beacon chain and something called sharding where we have a lot of parallel chains running together as the ethereum network so this is just the most exciting time i can imagine i'm glad you're on board and i hope you'll see us tomorrow morning at the at the launch call i'll get to that in just a minute if you're running a validator if you've submitted a deposit and you're part of the genesis block it is extremely important for you to be online uh hopefully now letting your validator your beacon chain kind of heat up um and so at this point you should see kind of a a log that says 18 hours until genesis or whatever

eatstaker and the best thing you can say is hey i'm looking for the help desk and the help desk is not an actual place it's an idea an idea that we can connect you with and that are those are a list of willing and helpful um knowledgeable staffers who will get you into a private discord room with um it will really be two staffers uh to one person who needs help and they'll get you up and running quickly if you're doing this on your own and you're in a pinch the quickest way to get up is to go to ethereumnodes.com and sign up with one of those ethereum one chain data providers infuria is the most well known

but at ethereumnodes.org you'll find a great i'm sorry ethereumnodes.com you'll find a great list of those providers and then the easiest clients to launch are prism. using the prism.sh script and lighthouse just by downloading the binary from their site that doesn't require any compiling they are ready to roll and so just by doing those two steps you can pretty much be up and validating in 15 or 20 minutes now it's overwhelming if you've never done it before and we're glad to help you but it's not difficult and and we know that the more people who are online for genesis the better the launch will be and so we really want you there uh if you're a home staker and

you should you're obviously following i hope you're following the updates from whatever client you're using and so there have been client releases over the past few days you really want to make sure that you have installed those updates and especially since we're less than 24 hours away if your client releases an update i need you to drop what you're doing and install it because as we're this close to launch if there is any update and i really don't expect much but if there is an update it's going to be considered probably critical because everything should be set in stone so we really should be on our final releases if you do see a release please install it uh so tomorrow very excited about this probably in about 18 hours for me

creating this video i'll be online with the eath stakers on the ethereum ethereum foundation youtube channel and we'll be streaming a launch party you'll see a lot of people you recognize from the ethereum community and will be watching up to the genesis block and through the launch and after the launch we'll be following the progress of the chain for about three epochs uh so that's about 18 minutes depending on how things go maybe even a little longer if it's really exciting but i hope you can join us if you join live stream on youtube we're going to

offer you a poe and we'll tell you how to claim that in advance it does require you to come to our discord so you might go ahead and get authorized on our discord at invite dot gg slash eatstaker but basically we're going to tell you a secret word and you're going to go message a bot and say the secret word and then you're going to be delivered a poep if you don't know what a poep is it is a proof of attendance protocol token it's an erc 721 token that just kind of says you did this it's a proof to the world that you participated in an event so if you've never dealt with ethereum but you still want to come and watch this live stream then i really encourage you to claim this poep badge because it may come in handy later for proving that you were

actually a part of this event regardless of any perceived value it's just really neat to have that um i call it a sticker collection a sticker that says hey i went here so that's a lot of fun there are a total of four poe apps available uh regarding the genesis launch the first poep is the launch call if you participate on youtube you'll get a secret word you'll come to our discord and claim your poep if you submitted a deposit to the deposit contract and are part of the genesis block you will be airdropped a poep so that's exciting

um and so here are the ones that are kind of difficult to get if you're one of the first 1024 block proposers on the genesis chain i'm sorry on the beacon chain and you have included special um graffiti then you'll get a poep and if you're one of the first 32 768 proposers you'll also get a poep if you have the graffiti that that tells the network that you want to receive it if you want to get that graffiti so you can get the poep you'll go to beacon chain b-e-a-c-o-n-c-h-a dot i-n slash po app and you'll basically enter the receiving address you want to get

and it will hash that to make it shorter so it fits in your graffiti and then you'll just basically paste that in your graffiti and restart your validator i don't encourage restarting your validator a lot right now but doing this is a great opportunity i would encourage you to do it sooner than later um the poep for the first 1024 block proposers is going to be really rare because not everyone is going to use that graffiti so the maximum possible distribution is 1024 and it will be lower than that so i mentioned the youtube stream for uh the east staker and ethereum foundation and that's going to be really

but i want to tell you about another stream that's going to be at the same time kind of in partnership so we can reach the biggest audience eric connor who you know from ethub will be streaming along with defy dad and ryan sean adams from bankless on their channel and so that's a really great like parallel opportunity i really encourage you to check them out those guys are really informative and great streamers and i'll tell you that as soon as i finish our live stream i'm going to go and watch the recorded version of those so yeah i definitely want you to watch the eat steak or eat foundation stream but uh don't be afraid to pop out and check over and see what's going on
