S4. Ep. 31 - Season Wrap Up
9 Aug 2024 · 6:27
Kevin Owocki closes the fourth season of Green Pill, Lean Mean Capital Allocation Machines, which explored how tokenized assets could allow more democratic, precise and scalable onchain capital allocation. He ties the season to his work at Gitcoin on Allo protocol, which is meant to let any DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) or community spin up quadratic funding, retroactive funding, conviction voting and similar mechanisms, with version 2.1 expected around Devcon. Looking ahead, he explains that guest hosts from the Greenpill network will run the show for several months, beginning with a fifth season on retroactive funding rounds.

Welcome to the Green Pill.net podcast. If you just joining us for building a coordination, a network society of thousands of hackers, dreamers, and doers using crypto to bring positive sum digital systems to the world. This podcast features the people who are doing it and we publish a season of about a dozen episodes every couple months. This season was lean mean capital allocation machines. As the world becomes tokenized, as assets in the world become tokenized, in what ways are we going to be able to do more democratic, more precise, more scalable, and more weird capital allocation than has ever been done before. I really had a lot of fun this season covering the coolest experiments in on-chain capital allocation and I have a feeling wow that we just really just started to scratch
the surface this season in what is possible in the realm of capital allocation. Recorded about 25 episodes about capital allocation and I hope that this season withstands the wet the test of time as a piece of a body of work that we can really be excited about as a community in showing off the possibilities of blockchains to regenerate the world and also to do more sophisticated, precise, and democratic capital allocation than has ever been done before. So, the episode that you're listening to today has no guest. It's just me. I'm wrapping up the season of Green Pill entitled Lean Mean Capital Allocation Machines and I think that I had a lot of
fun this season cartographing the different ways that crypto is being used in this way and all of the different experiments that are out there. And you know, for those of you who are skilled at reading in between the lines, this also ebbs and flows with my role at Gitcoin, which is developing Allo protocol. Allo 2.1 is is supposedly going to be launching at Devcon this year and the goal is to allow anyone to spin up funding infrastructure for their DAO, for their community, for their work that they want to find impact in and to build quadratic funding, retroactive funding, conviction voting, grant chips, any all these different types of capital allocation, we want to make it easy to spin up in your DAO. And if you're a developer, fork it and extend it and
hopefully the end result is a Cambrian explosion of innovation in the capital allocation space. So, it's been really fun to cartography the space with you all this season and I think that we're going to have to revisit this topic in a couple years if the thesis ends up playing out that on-chain capital allocation is going to be weirder and more precise and more scalable than was ever possible before. So, I'm here for it. Let's see how it goes and uh thank you for tuning in to season 4 of Greenpill Lean Mean Capital Allocation Machines. So, we have now closed down Lean Mean Capital Allocation season 4 of Greenpill.
Well, I am decentralizing my podcast hosting duties for the next several months of the Greenpill podcast and we're going to be having a great series of guest Greenpill seasons in the upcoming months in which I'm basically going to offer the host seat to members of the greenpill.network who are doing good work in the community and this is partially selfishly for myself. I am just need to go back and focus on Gitcoin stuff and uh not having to think about for a little bit. I think will be healthy for me as I'm focused on making sure that Gitcoin is in a position to be maximally successful with its North Star. But, it's also an opportunity to elevate members of the Greenpill network
who have been working behind the scenes and to give the spotlight to people who are doing great work in the community that otherwise have not been able to be spotlighted. And one of the other things that I'm really excited about is that there's niches within the regen web3 space that I just don't see and that I just don't know about. And so, one of the things that I think will be really cool about the guest seasons of Greenpill is that we're going to be able to enable people who are closer to different niches within regen web3 to cartography those design spaces to democratize the access that they have to those spaces to the Green Pill audience.
So, there's a couple of thousand of you that listen to the podcast and I'm really excited about the opportunity to let them take the podcast for a ride for a month or so and to tell everyone about what they know. The it's July 31st right now. I'm recording this right now at the end of July. All of August I'm going to hand over the podcast to my friends Sajal and Launa Mau who have been working on retroactive funding within the optimism ecosystem and also Gitcoin's got a new tool called easy retro PGF that allows anyone to do retroactive funding. And so, season five of Green Pill I'm happy to announce here is going to be about the summer of retro rounds. Basically, the primary objective of this season is going to be delving
into the intricacies of retroactive public goods funding and examine its multifaceted phases and potential designs. And this exploration will enable listeners to gain a comprehensive understanding of how retro funding design rounds are designed and the nuances involved in their execution. So, retroactive funding is super hot right now and excited to do a whole season on it. And I also think Sajal and Launa are just so smart, so earnest, and so well-intentioned and happy to give them a keys to the car for a month and let them take it for a spin and hopefully you enjoy listening to them as much as you enjoy listening to the Green Pill podcast. Over time I think that we're going to see as Green Pill podcast became greenpill.network and
greenpill.network continues to incubate regen web3 talent in the space, hopefully you'll be hearing from a lot more of the great people who are doing work in the space and less of me over time and we will progressively decentralize greenpill.network. In the meantime, I will be hanging out at Gitcoin at getgov.gitcoin.co. you can follow what I've been up to. And I think that you probably won't hear from much from me on the podcast from August until December or so. We've got about 5 months of guest content coming up, and I will be announcing those as they come up. But we're starting with Summer of Retro Rounds with Sajal and Law. So, I think that you're going to enjoy the next season of GreenPill Podcast season 5 Summer of Retro Rounds. And I will see you on the internet in the meantime.
Peace and love. Goodbye.
