Rise of New Societies
ETHConf · June 2026 · 16:52
Jakob Drzazga, founder of Frontier Tower, argues that societies lack the test nets that led him to choose Ethereum, and describes building one physically: a 16-floor vertical village in San Francisco that he says drew 70,000 visitors and 800 full-time citizens in a year. Drzazga cites Ray Dalio's 250-year lifespan thesis and a China trip to argue for startup and freedom cities. He previews a Frontier OS stablecoin that restricts subsidies to the community and a Protocol Labs experiment in which AI agents vote on DAO proposals, at ETHConf.

Nice to be here. Thank you for coming. H before I dive in, I want to actually give you a little story. I came into crypto in 2017. And uh when I came in, I immediately had to do like one decision. which chain would I gonna be building on? And um it wasn't and do you know why I actually chose Ethereum? It wasn't about the price action. It wasn't about the hype which was going on. It was about the test nets. And you might think like why test nets? it. I I was looking at the technology and I was thinking to myself, what is something which
will survive for the next five, 10 or even a hundred years and the Ethereum devs just were exceptional at creating these test nets, making sure that everything was solid, and then changing the engine mid-flight. And this gave me the confidence that actually this technology is worth building on. But when you're looking now on our societies and our governments, we don't have test nets. We are just implementing things mid-flight without testing anything before. And so this is this looks sometimes very uncoordinated.
And so I want to ask the question is how would the world look like or how would the US look like or nation states look like if you would have test nets which we can test out certain implementation before implementing it nationwide. But before we get into the theoretical I want to tell you a little bit about the practical because we are not a concept somewhere like um you know up in the clouds. We actually are building stuff right now. As of last year, April, we own this 16th floor high-rise in San Francisco. We call it the 16th floor vertical village for Frontier
Technologies. Uh and uh we have place for around 7,000 builders. We have floors for AI, longevity, biotech, crypto, which we by the way call the Ethereum floor. Um robotics, all right, neuroch. We have a maker space. We have a lounge and a gym. So we we've created really a vertical village and we are live now for uh for about one year. In the last 12 months alone we had around 70,000 people who came through this building. We had so many events it was incredible. 800 of these people decided to become full-time citizens and we are growing around 25% quarter over quarter
quarter. So and this was just the beginning as we saw that this project actually works out. Uh we occupied another building which you see here uh on on the left side which is superhero hotel. So our original plan was to have within the frontier tower also co-l livingiving space somewhere where you not only come during the day but also somewhere where you can stay at night. And uh since the tower was filling up so quickly we decided to instead of converting some of the floors from commercial to residential to actually buy another building and bring 150 builders there to
stay with us. So we have now both And and this is not where we want to stop. We want to grow our community to now around a thousand people to 10,000, 100,000 and then a million. And why do we want to do that? We want to do that to actually have a chance to build a test net for the implementations which we want to do on a national level. And since we are here in New York, we are also by the way looking at uh New York buildings as well.
So what we are doing is we are building a new society to rethink governance and money from a first principles perspective. But why are we doing that right? What motivates us and why is right now the right time? And uh some of you might know this guy. Does anybody know that guy? It's Ray Dalio, right? Ray Dalio, one of the uh biggest hedge funds managers of of our planet and a pretty smart guy and he basically had one thesis which he told everyone is that societies and governments actually have uh a time
of survival of around 250 years. So 250 years is the average time uh of one system actually survives and stays in power. And and this is something which um which I thought to myself, wow, this is this is interesting. Um let me look actually at China because his thesis is that China is is the the growing world power. So I went to China. I went to Mu Shanghai which is one of the the pop-up cities and I saw something which is amazing, right? We saw I saw robotics the the drone show for example on on the on the top left which beat the world record. I saw robots running around on the street. We had coffee shops um
completely automated >> and um and also on and on in on the biotech space. you know, the the last year was the first year that China surpassed the US uh by having um bigger um uh um blockbuster farmer deals and uh and the and and the clean cars, the the clean cities were actually yeah really pleasant because there were only electrical cars. Now what am I trying to say with that?
I believe that China made it happen out of two reasons which we can learn from. The one reason is that they are obviously younger, right? Their society or at least their uh the government system only is 80 year old 80 years old. The other reason which is very very important is that they actually are experimenting on multiple levels in multiple cities. So when you look at Shenzen, this was a 30,000 people fisher village which now came to to be the world's hardware capital. And so these economic free zones, the special economic zones are not only uh there they also create they were created in
Dubai as well. So we had Dubai which is now the financial um capital of um of the Middle East. We also saw Singapore who was very very su successful from building from scratch uh to um uh to being like super successful uh right now. So my thinking is we need to create startup or freedom cities and right now the Democrats and the Republicans are actually um thinking about that to create something like this in America and and innovate try to build a test net for uh what we are building here reduce the barrier make sure that we are able
to uh to innovate that there that we have like the super talented people which we are here we have here in the US give them the ability to just run and do things and when it works then implement it on a national scale this reduces the risks of of just implementing it mid-flight without testing anything so that's why we are building a city of phys physical and digital automation >> and I want to give you two examples of things which which I believe um are able to be implemented even without the city just within our community because we need to start somewhere and the one time
it's money right now and I'm super happy about that you know the genius bill came to uh came to fruition and we are now able to launch stable coins within the US so what we have done uh is we've created our own stable coin and we we will be implementing it and testing out how you can use to purposefully give subsidies to communities and to individuals uh without uh just giving them money and or directing them towards one vendor. I want to give you an example so it's not so theoretical. Uh Joe Biden and this administration in 2021 just gave out I
think around $2,000 US uh to um to everybody uh in the US below a certain income criteria. What happened to this money? A lot of people used it in a good way but a lot of people are just invested into crypto, right? Which you know we might be very happy about but this was not the intention of the administration. They wanted to support um small businesses and wanted to make sure that this uh creates a positive effect in their economy. With stable coins, you can actually do that. You can create programmatically spendable um uh uh contributions or subsidies. So what we are trying to test is to give every
citizen which is within our ecosystem just $200 or $300 but restricted in such a way that they can only spend it uh within within our thousand people ecosystem right if this works we could potentially implement it on a on a bigger scale as well so this is something where we are building on uh Frontier OS will be uh will be launching later this year and we'll be mainly for for our uh community uh but also for for people who are visiting the the frontier tower. So around 70,000 people early adopters uh in uh in San Francisco will be using uh our technology very very
soon. Another example which I want to give you is tax tax allocation. So tax allocation right now is is really difficult right you have frozen annual ann annual budgets underfunded public goods so how is how can we actually improve that and we have in crypto a lot of things which we've built over the years we have built dows right we have built future key uh systems we've built so many cool stuff but in crypto alone the adoption was not there and I believe it wasn't there because uh because it was a digital ecosystem, right? Like when I think about the Dows I
participated in like I maybe spent 1% of my entire lifetime on actually looking into their systems but now I'm spending 50 60 70% of my entire life within the Frontier Tower ecosystem. Right? So when it actually is something which where you're like spending time where you're physically meeting other people we have to a chance to reinvent how Dows actually uh will have an effect on on our communities and this is something where where I want to um tell you a little bit about another project which we actually did uh with uh with protocol labs actually to be honest protocol labs led this
experiment within our tower. So each of this these little figures here um were actually human beings within the tower. So it was but it was agents who we prompted in a way and said like hey this is this is the way and how you um how I want the tower to function. These are my values. This is something which I really uh care about. This is what I don't care about. And then these pe these these small agents were running around and talking to each other and coming up with should we accept this proposal or should we accept that proposal right so what problem does this solve I don't know how many of you have actually been active in
Dow but when I when I needed to read the proposals I was like oh my god like another 30 pages of proposal I'm not going to read it I'm not going to vote but when we have our agents who will be able able to like digest this also feed it with data of like where do I actually where my does my human actually hang out does he hang out in the lounge or the eye floor then we maybe should not liquidate it right when there's a proposal to liquidate it so there are unlimited amount of of possibilities on how we can use the all of the research and the development which we've done with Dow and the crypto side and now also with AI and bring this all
together. Bring this together to actually create a test net which we can look on and and decide together if we want to take these learnings and implement it on a national level. So do you guys want to work with me and build a society test net? If you want one like would then then reach out to me. I will share my telegram in a second. But we have a couple of points which which we are currently have on the road map. We will not tackle everything at the very beginning but if you're interested some of them please reach out. So we have RWA so real world assets in form of real estate of over $30
million right. So what can we do with it? We can put credit on chain because we have credits. We we can tokenize it. Right? If you if you have a nice app where you think like hey I want to actually build on it um right uh because Frontio OS has around 70,000 early adopters in San Francisco who actually have a wallet right reach out to us if you want to co-design an IRL DAO and like I don't know so many IRL Dows around there right so if you want to uh to do that you know reach out to us as We have three other things which I think are worth mentioning. The one thing is
something I'm very proud of is the frontier residency. So right now what we've done is we've selected and ran the badge zero of our frontier residency. We selected six startups from around the world invited them to San Francisco to stay with us and then sponsored their entire stay. made sure that they get connected in the entire ecosystem and also done a demo day for them to present it to the VCs of San Francisco, right, which is still the the main um uh VC capital of the world and one of our founders was accepted to YC and a couple of others got big check sizes uh in
their fundraisers as well. Another thing which I want to talk to you about is we still have open floors at at the frontier tower. So all of the 16 floors we are filling up but from a thousand citizens to 7,000 citizens we still have a lot of space. So if you are willing and if you want to participate it and you have an idea you want to run it, if you're part of an organization who wants to run one of these floors, reach out to us. And um and the last thing is uh we want to fully robotize this building.
So for example when you are in robotics and you want to do a robot diner come and work with us. So that's it. Thank you so much for uh for joining and my telegram is uh Jacob with a K and threebs and we you can reach us online on frontier.io. So um yeah, thank you for coming and hope to see you soon.
