PQ Ethereum Workshop 2025 · 6 Oct 2025 · 10:39
A session from day 3 of the PQ Ethereum Workshop, held in Cambridge, UK on 6 October 2025 as part of lean week 2025 and hosted by the Ethereum Foundation. The workshop brought researchers, cryptographers and client developers together on post-quantum signatures, proof systems and devnet planning for Ethereum.

Hello and welcome to day three. Uh I'm starting to feel a little bit tired. Congratulations to everyone who made it early this morning. Um so today we have uh two rooms, the Lena Hall and the Sabilla the same room as on day one. I guess we'll try all of the rooms in Jesus College and then next year we can pick our favorites. One thing that I wanted to highlight is that uh we have a videographer in the room and photographer Louie uh in the back here. So we'll be if that's okay with you moving the group uh photo uh to the morning because some people are leaving well at least one person leaving
in the afternoon. Uh we have some beautiful sunlight uh right now. And another thing that I wanted to highlight on the agenda is that uh we're going to try and organize a college visit. Um it has a really beautiful crowds and very interesting story. So that would be after the the group debrief for those who want and then um you know this this afternoon and this evening going to have uh drinks on the Cambridge Union uh a special talk and then and then dinner. So um What I'd like to do is invite the team lead as usual to kind share the the plan for today some of the
open problems. Uh I guess we can start with O Yeah sorry. So, uh I'm happy to soft announce that we have achieved interlock two clients internally. So, thanks to for all the work fixing up until like late night
11 p.m. and then I think we all continue over after that. So, at least we have now team talking able to finalize uh for certain number of slots under June's machine. So, it's only achieved internally right now. That's a good start. We tried out with four uh nodes. So three of them are reu, one of them are zu. So um to actually really confir that student is going to try out two and two trying to with each other. So that that confirms that it's actually really 50/50.
Um so so that's that's it. Um so hopefully like we can kind of like polish this a bit more and maybe at the end we can show some some time for for some demo. Uh hopefully we can do that. Um so that's great news because then the rest of the day then we can start to shift focus on what are we going to be doing in the future. So uh I think so first session is key gen by so all the questions about postponed signatures I think there's some overlap to networking as well discuss about uh the P2P that's also on networking I'm not sure but looking forward to to talk about networking a bit more and then of course you have that breakouts I think again
we'll see it's going to be um support I guess getting clean to actually drop with two plans and then we spend the rest of the time talking about one and I think there seems to be probably just to make the timing easier and more more there so yeah that's that's probably Perfect. Thank you. [Applause] >> Just to give a little bit of context for the beacon chain, it took a very long
time to get the clients to talk to each other. It's really amazing. Um, and yeah, we're going to to my presentation on funding PCP which is yet another exciting direction for the P network to what R has been talking about. Okay. Um I guess we don't have any formal verification uh events. Uh Alex, do you want to try and do you have any kind of plans for today?
>> Uh mined to promote the chat. Okay, good. >> I think it's representative of what all the for people. >> Okay, perfect. There's also the the lounge should be available as well in discussions. Um okay uh the theory before we >> yeah so we have a session on two as I said on the on the first day I think if two is broken then we are also screwed right all of this doesn't make any sense so I think we should have some time understanding two and security I think the team leads are are not correct here so they should be switched to the team
from CKings the so then we have the session on on maintenance encodings. Uh so as I said also on the first day like there's the encoding that we currently have has some nice properties with respect to the code that it outputs but the algorithm itself is not the best. So there's a proposal for a better one that's more CK friendly. So we can talk about the security of that and whether it's really CK friendly enough.
And then we have a a session that is still pretty open the proximity jam. So this was intentionally left open as sort of uh continuing the discussions from the previous sessions that we had on mutual correlated agreement and proximity price. So if anyone has something concretely to discuss in that session please tell it now or >> yeah maybe after session which would be nice there are two things that I would like to figure out there's a in the very when you're very close to the to the capacity some weird things start happening so one thing I think it's just some cute problem that we think we can make some
progress and I would like to make some progress on the um numerical experiment side of the of the I think these are like two most obain goals that we can get started during that >> yeah I think that makes perfect sense let's keep that in mind and I think this will be a successful day >> perfect when you focus on to I believe we have a budget of $600,000 for 2025 and To me that seems like a budget for ants considering the whole industry depends on percent too. Um and so I'm hoping we can increase the budget going forward.
Um but maybe we just don't have an idea as to where to spend this money. So raise some ideas for how we can accelerate analysis that would be good. If you're a smart optimizer um this session could be extremely valuable for us, right? Basically it's just about making these primitives more smart friendly and this will have a direct impact on the aggregation performance. Okay. Okay. And then finally we have the investors with >> Yeah. So today we have two session one the first one KBM I think that they will present their vision on what should be KVM. Uh what
about the recussion the the models that they have in mind especially discussing like Kro M and R3 recussion? It will be an amazing session to compare the design they have in mind with what we currently have in VM how they see recussion the ISA all of this stuff and then we have like the second session with Angus and again about 3 what's the current status of optimization what could be optimized further uh talking about various primitive bron that could be uh improved in term of performance like the GST, the
filter, the hashes and everything that could be discussed around performance topic and usability for us. >> Okay, perfect. Yeah, there's a lot of chat and experimentation happening with recursion in particular and having more visibility there and picking the best ideas for design would be a fantastic outcome. One thing I forgot to mention is that um we will be doing five minutes interviews with whoever wants to to be interviewed where we're trying to make this promotional video if you will showcasing that uh we're doing a lot of effort on
postquantum security. So this would be, you know, very polished video that would go on on Twitter, but there's no um no obligation whatsoever to participate in the in the one to one five minute interviews. Okay. Any questions? Anyone would like to discuss anything? If not, um then we have a seven minute break till we get started. But >> where do we leave for the picture? Ah um shall we just meet just outside where it's sunny and then uh we can move to the the correct way.
>> Okay. >> So median rough median. >> Yes. >> Just
