It’s Too Late… MEV has Already Achieved AGI

Flashbots co-founder and MEV researcher Phil Daian argues that maximal extractable value bots already exhibit behavior indistinguishable from artificial general intelligence, needling AI-safety discourse that treats AGI as a future threshold rather than something adversarial trading systems have already crossed. Drawing on his research into block-builder auctions and searcher strategies, he traces how MEV extraction evolved from simple arbitrage into adaptive, competitive systems that route around whatever defenses protocols and rollups deploy. He delivered the talk at Zuzalu Montenegro 2023.
