hey everyone thanks for joining in this early early hour um uh yeah i'm i'm ivan i'm uh with aragon for about four months now [Music] during the week i work with aragon on the weekends i ap around web3 and i'm representing argonne's ecosystem efforts so i'll talk to you about the past present and future of helping communities go down [Music] so uh i hope most of you are familiar with the fight for freedom video it's been tall it's been named argon's best product
multiple times and it's i i wanted to have it there just as a reminder that like basically we believed in dallas when no one else did so the dao hack was still fresh everybody was like that that concept is not gonna fly nobody wants to do that it's too risky but we soldiered on um because it's it's probably one of the most impactful things that blockchain brought us this ability to coordinate um so 2018 we we released client which was at the time the first complete dao framework uh and i said at the time because
back then it was you know you need a bonding curve to raise some money you need a treasury you you need an agent to upgrade uh smart contracts and and some on-chain voting and that was that was about it like that was more than enough for most teams um and since then we've seen we've seen an explosion of dow tooling which is which is an awesome thing um aragon itself was pretty robust but somewhat rigid which on one hand was a good thing because still not hacked in was it four years never been hacked which is awesome at the same time like the speed of evolution of functionality was not there
which actually opened space for a lot of really cool projects to emerge uh so that's why we're seeing now profile proliferation of doubt tooling which is which is really cool uh but a lot of a lot of organizations kept using the stack because it works and it worked really well until at some point the system that like the entire ecosystem started working really well so people started using ethereum a lot more uh gas fees went through the roof on chain voting just stopped being used like there were a few projects where you know delegate and like there is a well that spends 150
dollars to vote and you know it takes i don't know two thousand dollars to execute an on-chain uh vote but for most projects and especially most uh participants in the ecosystem token holders it just didn't make sense and that was on top of like typical problems with voting like voter fatigue you know uh my my my bag is too small it's not worth it like i'm not going to make a difference and all that stuff um this is in way by the way so in ethereum it's like the growth is like 10x more uh so so yeah nonetheless
aragon remained optimistic so we released argan govern which is an optimistic governance framework and it solves some of the issues basically it's an action-prone way of of making decisions collectively basically means if i you know we're a group i decided i want to do something i schedule an action and like if nobody else objects it gets executed which lowers the threshold for an organization to move forward at the same time it's not the most intuitive way of making collective decisions
even though like most traditional startups make the decisions this way right it's you know you you don't really have time because everybody's focused on their own piece of the pop of the puzzle like you don't have time to to get to gain like white consensus so unless somebody says oh what you're doing is really stupid it's going to kill the project like you just go ahead and do it uh so there are a lot of like really cool use cases it's just not the most intuitive way of doing things so it's going to take a while you know getting getting people used to this user education how it works why is it secure how is it secure et cetera et cetera et cetera um but yeah it's it's again a bit ahead of its time i think uh similar to dallas in
2018 uh and but this is like sort of present uh and then i'm gonna spend a couple of minutes talking about the future so thinking about the future went back to the manifesto it was about making impact helping the the largest number of people having the biggest impact on the world and um you know how could we do that as an organization obviously human coordination and governance which is like a subset of that uh as as a challenge is is way too big for a single
project team to to tackle so um yeah we thought okay they're like a lot of really really talented people building different projects addressing different needs of of humans that are trying to coordinate uh and work together so what we want to do is focus on accessible composability meaning make it easy for people to combine different tools built by different teams so it shouldn't take you 20 developer days to launch an organization it should be a lot simpler than that and
you know it's a long way but like we think that this uh simplification of combining the tools is really important because so far most most most of the focus is like let's build our thing really smooth but like nothing is being used in vacuum right um so yeah so so that's that's the direction we're taking uh compulsory meme but i i needed this here because i think it's really important for teams that are building the future of human coordination to be able to coordinate and work together
and not be hypocrites so yeah that's that's that's the messaging i want to bring into the world i've rallied the whole aragon team behind that messaging hopefully other teams as well and speaking of other teams there is this uh the dow global hackathon which is most of the big dow tooling companies and and and a lot of other friends of the vision of making dow tooling accessible making human coordination easy enabling
redesigning the incentives of how how people interact vis a reality they joined uh so forces we're we're one of the one of one of the one of the organizers of this you see a lot of familiar names there but this is this is a step in the right direction by the way bitcoin confirmed this is the biggest web 3 hackathon ever in terms of teams coming together to to fund something which is in the interest of all of us uh launching on monday if you're a developer come hack away it's going to be awesome we're going to have pop-ups and stuff and like all those people are going to
talk to you about their stack and and what is more important they're going to talk about what they want to see in the world which ideally should inspire you to build something really cool that we haven't thought of but is needed and you know it's needed so just come do it we'll try to do our best to support you that's it thanks everyone apes strong together
