it's still a nice city hey everyone super happy to be here I'm Gwen Dalo I'm going to talk to you about the building The Meta metaverse so by meta metaverse what we mean is a layer on top of the metaverse not too confused with metaverse being built by a private company nobody likes here so briefly about me I'm gwendal gwendol on Twitter I'm one of the lucky persons with a not so common first name so I can get it as my handle feel free to follow me I'm the founder of metahood this is a company we're running which is focused on building the layer on top of the metaverse we also been launching
recently side events I've been briefly mentioning and hik.af Marketplace on this has been playing Euro a little bit there and yeah about decentralization Maxi I would say I'm uh yeah I think we are all here right building for a better decentralized world so yeah really briefly uh have you heard about the metaverse I guess you did everybody is talking about it it's becoming a joke like every newspaper is writing about the metaverse every single brand is doing something in the metaverse so it seems like it's the whole world everybody is doing stuff there but there are a lot of misconceptions about what actually is the meta version what people you know understand that and one of the biggest misconceptions
there it's actually something we are not going to talk about that's this stuff if I if we can call it this way by metaverse that's really not what we mean there are private companies which are building 3D versions of their UI right 3D platforms but just keeping the whole centralized data set and stack and that's really not what we are talking about by metaverse and open metaverse and in the context of this store The Meta metaverse so let's dig a little bit about what we mean by metaverse here we are more talking about the states of the internet as we know it which which will be much more
um uh merged with our physical life today we still have we still have a different I mean you still have your really physical life and you make your money in real life and you have you have pretty much the tools that are separated and the more we go the more we'll have marriage lives in terms of both uh cognitive you know approaches you will have interfaces that will make things much more immersive and on social and economic uh standpoint right more and more you start to make money online and make money through your you know online personalized and it's something that also has been really pushed by nfts and you know the whole Webster movement where you can actually uh be an economic actor online right not
only in your physical life so by metaverse also we mean something that's community and Community built this is really important because if we are talking about something where our physical lives and digital lives merge together it needs to be you know it needs to come from you from the people like this whole world being built it cannot be done by another company or otherwise we'll just uh you're just a cog in a system and and that's not really the world you want to live in so community on community builds and it's something that's that the reason it's so hot today it's because you know technological progress the momentum is there or the mini computers we have on our pockets allow us to get emails in this world uh you know the 3D devices
that are coming AR glasses VR headsets everything really allows us to you know project ourselves in in 3D environments in a much more you know um mind-blowing way and immersive way and yeah point is digital ownership like pretty much the nft you know Revolution and the whole you know hype there has been for the past years in it is a key system in it if you want to build you know digital world that merges with the physical world you need as human beings we own stuff and you know that's how it works well we have to I'm stiff you know it's my stuff and it's not maybe for the best but that's how we work uh there are a few cavities so everybody is thinking about the metaverse as being a
3D World it doesn't have to be right if you look at yeah some companies you have creepy playing characters in this 3D world that's really not what it has to be is not only via everything everybody is like a bit afraid of the meta verse being this place where you you go and you just shut down the whole world around you and you're just immersed in a in a bubble it doesn't have to be that way it can be area will be a huge thing when I'm convinced like when everybody I mean when you will have uh actually cool Googles to wear glasses to wear connected glasses it will be much more natural for people to you know make them part of your of their daily lives and and to interact you know with a world with data on top of it you
know layer on top of your real world it will be much more cool and adopted and yeah if we talk about it we are pretty much living in the metaverse already right we are all on Twitter Discord we have our online personals and yeah we are already there somehow so really what it is we're talking about is more of an immersive web web where you you're you know you your cognition your your understanding and your approach to the world our new is much more merged with digital and that's so we should maybe rename it to let's say immersive web why not um really briefly yeah right now all these open metaverse is being built can be really categorized by on different you know uh categories we won't go into
too much details on what they are um but briefly it's like you have 2D metaverses 3D metaverses in the 3D metaverses you have the super popular voxel metaversees and you have the more realistic 3D materials um in terms of mechanics we have some that are more gaming oriented like the sandbox you have some that are more based around experiences and social like decentraline then you have some more contemplative let's say metaversees where you have an online gallery and you work around and you look at arts in a in an immersive way right like on Cyber um and an interesting different like kind of differentiation we see we start to see happening in metaverses is the
really spatial based you know special properties around the metaverse some metaverses really try to recreate a world like we have around this like we create a map a world where you can work around and see different like different different worlds and different territories and you can own one and you can't you can go work around to someone else's places so you keep the same type of a way to appear on the world that you have today in your physical life so yeah most of them are based like this and dog season Trend and you have some more room-based metaverses where you can just create a room you have a URL to access it and you go there and you don't necessarily have links in between this room and you cannot really navigate around these
different worlds so that's yeah a really brief differentiation but there are a few issues like especially last year so you had the hype of the metaverse like some companies change names and everybody like was started eyeing at the metaverse and everything that was being built around the metaverse so you had a huge hype around all these metabus projects everybody started building one everyone wants to build the metaverse and VCS went crazy through money at every single project thing I'm gonna do a meta version so you have like right now a lot of new competing projects that are not launched yet for many of them that are just being created and it creates problem right you have fragment I mean
it splits the talents like people are you know gathering around different teams building different competing products and yeah everybody is trying to build their own um products prices right now it's you can yeah this little tweets down there really sums it up there is not really yet a lot of usage in the metaverse it's really low numbers instead of daily active users we're talking about so yeah everybody is talking about the metaverse everybody is throwing money at the metaverse at the open metaverse but yeah today it's it's really small if you can if we if we can consider these Roblox fortnite all
these other existing platforms as materials they are much more in place like everybody is using Heaven yeah daily active users of Roblox yeah 37 million like I think these numbers are not up to date I think they're like 70 million today like the latest number 49 30 minutes yeah it's quite huge compared to the open uh Alternatives that are being built but everything is being built so it will come right um some other problems are there is no interoperability and actually every single project right now I mean most projects are really being building World Gardens they want to build platforms where people will spend as much time as possible and not live so it's sort of a problem because it just means you don't build an ecosystem a same ecosystem
right if you don't cooperate with other players of the open metaverse and yeah no product Market fit right now I mean small product Market fit right now a lot of products are being built but I think that's why the numbers are so low like the numbers are low because yeah some of these platforms are not launched yet they are still in Alpha like sandbox is not publicly launched yet but for the other ones they are not necessarily a product Market fit yet it's probably they're just like trying to build this incentive these Dynamics where people want to actually spend time and go and and you know inverse themselves like the metaverses that work right now are really pushing people to come interact by in incentivizing them through tokens like
come play and you'll get money so it's not the most sane way to to build a sane ecosystem so to build an uh thriving open metabear there are key points I think should be addressed and are being addressed right now first one is standards we have to make sure that the same way on the the web as we know the you know uh traditional web we have uh standards you know the HTML Works in certain ways the CSS Works a certain way we have met attacks for pages and we know how a page can be written from can be read from the from the outside we know how you know what the page means from an external context we need this kind of context as
well and this kind of standard for the metaverse it's actually being fixed like some organizations are being formed to do it like the metaverse standard form is being I know has been announced a few a few weeks ago only problem with this one is that it's being started by private companies like the Microsoft meta Nvidia and it it will it can bring some bias right I think we need to get the open metaverse players involved a bit more and it has to be globalizing everybody has to get involved in it so I've seen some local initiatives like in France I think a few companies started a few companies of the open meta where started
to discuss about like standards but it has to be really Global so that's it it really takes off another point is share languages if all the different metaverses use different Stacks it won't work you need a common stack to do it and right now this stack is coming up like we have webjl we've had it for years and no one has been really using it or playing with it except for you know um yeah except artists maybe to display stuff in the browser but the more it will go and I think the more it will become the new HTML like the more you will go towards an immersive web the more we will need to be 3D interfaces and 3D worlds around this and webjl is partly perfectly fit for it and it's probably going to become language that as our stack that will be more and more
used than and needed in the over the next years and yeah in it like glb gltf all these 3D files formats will become the probably CSS de facto uh stand out like you will need probably to use this standards to to you know render to export your your your assets and it probably will will be the way you will interact with the open meters and yeah ethereum is becoming the platform from the open metaverse all the cool projects are launching there so yeah that's great so interoperability last Point uh we really yeah it really touched to the points I talked earlier about the fact that every single platform built on their own we really need to make sure
you can use your assets from one word to another so every talks about this world uh but yeah we definitely need an interoperability it's coming up with I mean erc721s and the nft stands are delos to have standardized assets that can be transferred from one platform to another but more on an ownership standpoint like we can tell a platform we own this token this asset and it can be used there but there are some other things not addressed yet for example for the rendering um we have to make sure it's compatible some metaverses really are booksell based so if you want to have a the required file format you can a trend are you talking so yeah what will happen for this is we'll probably have more and
more you know metaverse specific assets that will being built and yeah there need to be more it needs to be simple to do it's something we are addressing with meta I'll talk about that later and we need to have interoperability not only in terms of rendering you know everybody is thinking about rendering like how can I show my assets in one metaverse and in another but the really key point is like how it's not only how it looks but also it works um for it for example you can check the the ugalabs light paper for the other side they did they did a simple explanation of it it's it's pretty easy to understand but just saying to take their example back just saying if you
have a chair like let's say another object is a chair you need to make a different metadas platform understand that that's a chair object you can see it on it you can do these sections and you need all the platforms to understand the kind of actions you can do with this object because yeah it's cool to render it but you need to know how to interact with it um and that's what we are tackling with metahoots all these all these issues I've been raising so we're an organization dedicated to make the immersive web more open accessible and interoperable so we are tackling whoever for a mission to tackle these points our first crack edit is a Marketplace for metaverse assets so in the most of the meta verses you have
today you have this notion of a spatial metaverse right you have lens your own lens and today it's pretty tough to navigate uh around these different lens like people don't understand where to go where to buy where to build because building is a big key on the big point of the open metabares people are building stuff on the lens they own and they'll owe you that's always a hesitate people to come in this world is because someone will have great experiences that will be built by people there that own lens so that's sort of the simplified mechanism there so we build a platform to make metaverse assets trading easy we are not launched yet we are in private beta right now we are launching in September 2022 so yeah if you want to
keep in touch check it out uh metahoot.xyz so you can yeah you can go today and just one thing last thing one more thing super fast uh another project we just launched for uh actually nft NYC and we published it for ECC inside of events we do uh the first Webster even platform so we do a simple event platform for Webster events around you you log in with your wallet you can see all the website events happening you can filter by you know topic and you can just yeah do it all in a web spree way no email no yeah social networks traditional social networks sniffing there and slave no say those events and you can check the ECC events and that's
it thank you thank you gwendo thank you questions all right well yeah if you we have questions or maybe you want to think about it and meet up with gwendol outside this is our last event in here for the day so thank you everybody thank you again thank you thank you everyone thank you for listening
