All right. This is the closing speech. What a day, what a week, what months, what years, years, years of ETC. Again, kind reminder, ETCC is organized by TM France. You've heard it. We are a nonprofit based in France. We welcome people that are English speaking, French speaking, whatever speaking. As long as you want to speak Ethereum, you're welcome at Ethereum France. As you've seen, we are working relentlessly to make it more accessible. We organize it CC and we'd love your feedback. So, after the conference, you'll receive an email asking for feedback. We are caring about this. So, please tell us if it was
too hot, if the AC didn't work, if you had to walk too much between side events, if you like this, if you like that, what should we improve? We'd love to know more. And also, if you want to participate to Ethereum friends as a member, it cost€ 10. You can also pay uh in various cryptocurrency. We'd love to have you as member. So, you can participate to our governance and learn how we do things at Ethereum friends. Okay. So, mission accomplished. Yay. Okay. Mission accomplished. Wonderful.
We thought we could and it turns out we can. Yep. Specifically, we did uh all all numbers considered 5% more than Brussel. Uh which we felt was a great achievement. Uh we got sold out last ye yesterday, last night. Uh so a great indicator that uh our community is still very much growing and again thank you to the pal festival and to the city of K for their wonderful welcome. Yep.
This conference wouldn't have been possible uh without the help of Cryptolife Banks, MetaMask and Robin Hood. Robin Hood that you've seen did a quite a big show. Uh it's important that sponsors are helping us keeping the price of the conference low. Even if we are a nonprofit conference, this kind of big event cost a lot. So thank you to our diamond sponsors. Thank you as well to our Ruby sponsor Latitude Polygon Somnia OKX Lido B Ledger, 1 in Zurquit, World and Treasure. It means a lot. Your support really means a lot.
and of course all the smaller sponsors that you have had the pleasure to seen at the different booths uh two days out of four there are so many of them but also many of them returning and recurring again and again every year at dcc it's a pleasure to see their engagement and the fact that they continue to support support us over the years thank you to them as well Talking about people returning to HCC, we have the pleasure at HCC to see people that are coming every year as attendees and coming every year as speakers. So, if you've been to HCC's, you probably seen those faces. And it turns out those guys are also applying super early at the speaker uh uh
application. So, if you want to speak at HCC and be part of this wonderful board of returning speakers or first-time speaker, please apply early. It makes our life much easier. And again, thank you to them for coming every year to speak about what the beautiful thing they're building. ECC wouldn't be what it is without the volunteers. Shout out to them. There are so many of them. I see some here. Thank you again for your help. Um, yes. Yeah. If you don't know what to do, uh, next year you want to come help, please come help. We always are welcoming, welcoming hands. It's a good experience and you'll get pretty of cool out of your volunteer stuff. Um, HCC has been
growing and now we have a permanent team at ECC that you see on these wonderful pictures. Uh, you've been in touch with them one way or another. Uh, they are all all extremely talented and efficient. Hence the beautiful event that we did here and we wouldn't be doing this conference without them and our partners Kabuki Jvent and 316 colors. Thank you to them. All right. Okay. Now, it's time for a little video. I don't know if I should press play. Oh, yeah.
[Music] It's amazing. It's more than everything I expected. It's a beautiful location, an amazing venue as well. Take a look at it. It's so spectacular with the sunshine. It's been brilliant. Probably the uh best conference I've been to at least in the last 5 years. Highest quality talent, really deep knowledge, very innovative ideas. [Music] The hot topics will be tokenizations,
payments, stable coins, and improving of the user experience. [Music] I'm meeting amazing people that I've known online for many years. Karaoke room is so fun and kindergarten never seen this. It's a very nice event, makes a lot of fun and I will also visit one of the next editions of EFCC. I think one thing that really stands out for me is the quality of connections that I'm having here. You can kind of feel like everyone is working towards the same ideals.
[Applause] [Music] It's definitely place to be if you're looking for a new insight, meeting a new people. Everyone is really friendly, open-minded. It's amazing place to be. [Music] Pretty cool.
Yep. So, HCC is here because of you, of you all. It wouldn't be here if we didn't have such a big community to host and such a wonderful people to showcase what they are doing and to talk about the ideal that we are building on Ethereum. We shouldn't forget that. But also, HCC is not completely over. There is an afterparty after that. So 8:00 p.m. check your email. Uh come with your badge. Don't throw that away. First come, first serve. You'll have the details in your in your email. Check it out. Um what comes after HCC? The week is not over either. As you may have seen, there's a small strike at the airport. So your flight may be
cancelled, maybe rebooked to tomorrow and so on. So think about staying a little bit longer in can. We have a if global hackathon happening this weekend with lots of prizes if you're a builder or if you just want to participate to something cool over the weekend. And also we are going to celebrate the 10 years of Ethereum. 10 years. Let that sink in. 10 years. Come on. Uh Ethereum France will be hosting a meetup in Paris and something also decentralized and connected. Uh if you happen to be in France on the 30th of July, check out the Ethereum France Twitter account. uh we'll have something for you.
All right, let's uh as you seen on the agenda, the the closing talk is a bit longer this year. Uh cuz I would like us to all take a moment to look back. I've shown this uh this slide during the u the opening. Um I've met so many people in the community in my career going to different events. I barely missed any defcons. I don't miss any any blockchain event as a whole. And I've built a community. I've built my own friends, my own network around ETC and the different Ethereum events. I met friends, I met partners, I met in inspirational characters and I've seen thing being made, future being made in front of my eyes. Breakthrough being presented as
this kind of very scene. We'd like to keep it a never standing public good because we believe that you will continue to nurture it and grow it with us. My first HCC was looking like this. I had this wonderful gentleman called Ray Dudley that didn't come this year unfortunately and he said oh yeah I want to talk about something yeah let me let me apply he applied uh and picked a title called what I don't like about Ethereum like okay firstc we'll have to organize this and uh we're chasing people for their slides and so on and he said yeah I I sent my slides the slide was this space instit intentionally left blank first time you have to render a conference and uh you to take care of this kind of thing.
We have had over the past years the habit of debating in public of having decent um decent voices of listening to the technical argument to the rational argument to the economical argument and arguing and arguing aging just to make Ethereum stronger and better. And we have to look back and accept that we succeeded. We succeeded in that. Ephreum is the evidence. Yes, Ethereum is the evidence. You've seen it this week with uh Robin Hood coming up and say like, "Hey, we're building Robin Hood chain." Yep. On Ethereum because this is the right technology. This is how it works.
You had talks from different big fours at this conference. EY is one of them and put on their website built on Ethereum. Yes, built on Ethereum. You go on Google cloud platform, you can get testn net uh epher. One of the hardest thing to get those days, you can get it on Google. You have the black rocks and different big financial firms that are saying like, "Oh, we believe in Ethereum. We are building on Ethereum. We're doing Ethereum ETFs and so on." Ethereum is the evidence today. We shouldn't forget that. We should be proud of that because this was a journey. It's not over, but it's the evidence for the rest of the world that Ethereum matters. It's here to stay. We went from being some sort of um an ID, a
white paper, then a test net, and eventually also a mainet. We are going to celebrate the 10 years of this mainet. From this very idea, we were a potential alternative, then a credible alternative, and now we have to accept that we are the evidence for the rest of the shared internet, the share layer for sharing value. Stable coins 92% on Ethereum. Yeah. Or an Ethereum flavor EVM. We share the same blood. EVM, it's on Ethereum. 92%. WA 90%. Okay. That matters. We shouldn't let the rest of the world say, "Oh, but has this problem
this problem?" Yes, we have problem. We have problem because we scaled and we have problem we have because we have real thing in production that needs to be maintained. We need to say it out loud. Absolutely. I hesitated with uh the Tennos ring with all the L2s on it, but I think uh Captain Planet is a bit more positive on this case. So, I'd like this place, this uh ECC in GAN situation to be a statement for us. We matter very very very much to the rest of the world. We need to have a wakeup call because we are the building block for the future and we are building a lot of blocks.
Various conferences, various situation, various parties. Uh we always claim that we have strong culture and strong values like we are credibly neutral which is extremely important. It's it's decisive for the future of Ethereum. But we also barely celebrate our history. So those 10 years anniversary is going to be something and culture something that bring us together something that tie us together cannot really emerge with just a mix of inspirational concept. We need those get togethers we need to spend some time together. We need to share the same situations share the same challenges say share the same parties as well share the same friends and so on.
Look at how simple it is when it comes to Bitcoin. Oh we just have the pizza day. Oh let's go. But we have many thing we can celebrate in here. Do you remember what is in the first block of Ethereum? What is this weird ash here? Anyone knows what is this weird ash? Don't try to translate into ice like this just on looking at it. It's just the ash of the previous block of the test net. Ah, we should have put something more inspirational. Sure. But over the years, we did tremendous things. Tremendous thing that made us who we are today. We had real major security challenges. real major security challenges that made us stronger. Here's a few few uh ideas of uh thing we could celebrate. We could
have the eerilent. Yeah. Between the DAO hack and the Dow fork but contributing to bug bounty, eating one bug a day, whatever. We had so many bugs that we had to overcome. So many controversial situation that we had to overcome over the years. And one of the most amazing engineering delivery over the past 20 years, we moved from proof of work to proof of stake. Look at all the delay that we had to to face. Look at all the the challenges that we had to face to end up in the most sophisticated prostate consensus that has ever been put into production. Does anyone know where this picture was taken?
Shanghai. Absolutely. One hour before the start of Defcon 2, Shanghai, there was an attack on the network. Some some people found that one of the op code were underpriced and were spamming the network to shut down G node. Guess what the Ethereum engineers did? They kind of fixed it. Kind of make it so that it could continue to run. And then we upgraded. We got better. We got stronger. This whole idea of being in the open, constantly improving, committing training persevering persisting, being unbending in the in the thing that we believe and the thing that we want to put in production, being
uncompromising on the principle that we apply and on what we want to see live. It takes patience, but we end up sending. Ephreium is the evidence. Saying it out loud, it's been 10 years. 10 years without downtime. 10 10 years without downtime. The world computer never reboots. It never is. It never did. It never done. It probably will never if is the evidence and that's why it matters. If Yeah. What else? We are in can and again can is a statement. It's a statement. That's right now we are on the top one of the most important cultural scene of the
21st and the 20th century. We have uh sponsors that do that do short movies that uh that that bring new population into uh into our ecosystem. We are on the red carpet. We don't really matter. We are the evidence. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Don't let anyone tell you like oh but this blockchain it goes faster. Oh, but that blockchain they have bigger this, they have bigger that. We have the real challenge. We are hosting the real thing in production and that's what matter. That's why Ethereum is the evidence right now. And that's why everybody with seriousness with ambition is building on Ethereum and we were in this we are in this situation because of you because of all the controversial voices because all the dissident voices
because the passionate people that want to make Ethereum works. I had a very hard time of finding a picture of uh you know what without you know who without the wow know what on his yeah you know uh yeah memories of of Ethereum if you that's my personal collection of pictures I hope you appreciate it if you and is it is what it is because of you and thanks to you if the countless number of nodes 10,000 nodes that uh copy the same states that copy the same ledger and share it over Ethereum is you is you who are putting some stickers on your laptop or carrying memories over the years of the various conferences you've been. Ethereum is the crazy people that uh do Ethereum things
uh and share them share some Ethereum humors Ethereum uh related thing that we like to laugh about. Uh yeah it's a real town if one day we will do a conference in E. I promise. And Ethereum is everybody that leaves a mark on the ecosystem, that leaves a mark on the ledger, that leaves a mark on the open code, that leaves a mark on Ethereum and say Ethereum is the evidence. Ethereum is what we believe and Ethereum is what we are building. And Ethereum also is the people we miss, people that are fighting for free speech, people that we support and people that we love to see again contribute to the ecosystem.
Ethereum is you. HCC is you. And I'd like to say thank you everyone. Thank you for coming to HCC. And of course, see you next year in Cano. Oh, and don't forget to get your luggage before 4 p.m. because we are closing the thing. See you next year, guys. [Applause]
