DeFi By Design EP#13: The Inevitable Rise of Anonymous Developers

22 Oct 2020 · 49:16

The Rollup talks with Davis and Coin Alchemist, pseudonymous members of the team behind the Rope project, about the shift toward anonymous developers running crypto projects. They discuss how pseudonymity and full anonymity change business practices, including NFTs, yield farming, and charity giving, compared with teams that operate under their real identities. The conversation covers what running a project anonymously means for accountability and where the trend toward anon-led DeFi teams may be heading.

welcome to d5 by design where we talk all things blockchain and cryptocurrency while striving to educate empower and enrich what's up guys real quick break here to tell you about the d5 by design podcast sponsor ave ave is a non-custodial trustless decentralized money market protocol which is leading the d5 charge we know of it as the workhorse of d5 with their a tokens allowing you to earn interest on about 10 or 20 d5 tokens by using app.auve.com again that's app.aubie.com or just ave dot com and then you can get redirected to the protocol basically what you can do on ave is you can earn interest

by putting your assets into the protocol as a supplier right as a lender and then you can also borrow against your assets using them as collateral to long or short tokens earning interest when you do the borrowing as well so you can actually earn interest by supplying and borrowing assets on ave so check out ave.com give it a try and see what it's all about we use it all the time then yeah that is our d5 by design podcast sponsor ave thank you very much guys and let's get right back to it what's going on guys welcome to episode 13 of the d5 by design podcast i'm here with my co-host and og homie robbie

robbie we are here with rope team with guape aka coin alchemist and davis the core members from rope team don't buy rope i'll tell you that please do not buy rope guys and rob how you doing today oh my god i'm super excited to be here yeah whatever you do don't buy rope i do believe it's champagne guppy so i just want to you know clear that up but he can go into more detail on that and that's alchemist so yeah i'm doing good and it's a beautiful day i'm enjoying life living life and i'll let champagne guac me guappy the alchemist and davis take it away from here how you guys doing today doing good i'm davis or

carbon or carbon based or whatever you want to call me kind of got roped into this thing uh this 100 airdrop that iceberg he did and what's up i'm a coin alchemist champagne guap as andy and robbie pointed out uh no affiliation to blue kirby but this one feeling good uh happy to be here i want to um just clarify one thing we're not the only like core uh people a lot of other people have volunteered their time to help out with the project and are part of this kind of core team in the beginning we hope that you know more people kind of start contributing and build their own teams to

contribute to the group but i just want them to you know get their credit that there's there's many anons that are contributing and and part of the rope team at the moment probably more than people think yeah it's kind of nuts that like within such a short period of time a community can be built and worked around and progress can be made and real things can happen and everyone remains anonymous which is awesome yeah that that is super cool like what was it like kind of initially building the team or at least finding people to contribute uh you mentioned icebergy who also is anonymous and was kind of taking the lead on things initially like what was the genesis like

could you just kind of give us the story from when this went from an idea into a website with over a million dollars locked in it sure um icebergy wanted to do an airdrop for the people who had missed out on the meme that was me that was me sorry so this this was for this was for everyone who missed out um and he basically we got in a group like the same night he thought of it he made a telegram group it was just a google sheet all you had to provide was your address and your telegram name and i bought rope.lol because i thought it was funny and then

the next morning we did the air drop and immediately people started coming out from the community the recipients of the drop saying oh i'll help design a site uh okay i'll do the coding for it like immediately people were really passionate and um motivated to build something on top of this yeah that's nuts the airdrop idea is so crazy how like you could literally just airdrop it to a bunch of people to spread the word if you will and then all of a sudden people assign real value and start buying it with eth what did that feel like like when you saw that happen right like when those first few buys came in because i'm sure you guys were glued on the screens like

like what happened like like what was the feeling of like oh crap like people are buying this was it like oh i have a responsibility now or was it like ah this is funny i was gonna dump on them like like you know like kind of like how did you feel it felt like pain to me we should probably go into the fact that like the rope contributors are so like bullish on their own project that they they buy the tops all the local tops when it started going up it felt really painful to me because i seated the pool at the bottom with the entire oh it's that fat and permanent loss dude

ouch it's gone had to like and then uniswap went down for me and wouldn't load i was like buying much higher yeah it was i can say though like the most amazing part of it all and still like that boggles my mind is that you know you become part of all these different like groups trying to kind of assimilate the same thing that went on with the airdrop and get a group together you know just randomly drop it but there's not a lot of organization that happens uh naturally or there's not a team that's actually like extremely skilled at what they're doing that just comes together and this group was it was like a really like buy luck kind of chance um

that it all happened because i mean the developers that are working kind of behind the scenes are are really really amazing guys they do great work and the ideas that are kind of churning out are endless yeah it was definitely magical how this group of people many of us didn't even know each other before came together to work on this and like alchemist said the devs are just phenomenal they're rock stars all right all right enough of this rope shilling guys i've had enough of this robbie you to say something yeah so so i mean it's so interesting because you build this

this product or this website that everyone on the team has such amazing hopes for and like you said they're all they're all buying their own tops that's how confident they are in their own project and then you title the entire thing don't buy rope like what what was the idea behind that did that come from one person or was it like oh this is clearly going to take crypto by storm because people are are such like what's the word outliers in crypto or they just anyone in crypto this just does not follow the mainstream they avoid it at all costs why did you guys go with don't buy rope as the main headline uh iceberg you picked it and it was

you know that there's hope for the things you've missed out on so don't buy rope ah i see and then the farming of hope started which was really cool i think you guys were one of the first projects to do the nft yield farming yeah yeah so we made the decision to make hope non-transferable because we wanted to focus on trying to keep the game fair if it was transferable it would have been listed immediately and you know whales could buy it up people could speculate on it then they could mint everything out there wouldn't really be a um sane rhythm to the seasons uh we also made the decision that hope will carry over between seasons and one thing i thought was really funny was people were kind of freaking out in the telegram

when the nft farming started uh what are these things worth what are they gonna be worth are these worthless and um i was like what's a it's up for the secondary market to decide i can't tell you what they're worth you know that's i can't say that and now they're worth something so that's awesome to see yeah so i mean it goes without saying that if that's the route that the project took then the majority of the core team and the believers you guys are fans and believers in the idea that nfts will have real world value in the future and hold some sort of value now that will continuously go up in the future i am a huge fan of nfts and i do think they'll have more

value in the future i think there's a market saturation problem currently but i think that's why it's important for things to be coming from curated projects and that's something we're very focused on is creating value and recognition in the nft space yeah 100 like carbon i have i have a small addiction to purchasing valueless digital art um and and i think even preaching outside of the art sector uh nfts and other forms of non-fungible tokens are going to be really big when looking at how companies maybe structure how they run could you kind of expand on

that like why do you think you mean in terms of like equity structuring with uh non-transferable tokens yeah yeah i mean you could you could really tokenize just about anything so you know the idea of having a non-fungible token that represents uh something that is outside of the realm of art is a very possible reality i was gonna say i also think that it's kind of neat the stuff that's coming out as far as art at this time can represent a snapshot in time uh culture having it says something about you beyond just the art piece it says that you were a participant or that you're a part of this community

you were there for it i mean for that most recent launch that y'all did with the uh the charity the we were just talking about it prior but you guys launched an nft and sold them out for 69 eth and then gave it all to charity not only do the people who hold that nft it's almost like yeah like can i claim this as a tax write-off like yeah i did this like i have this nft like it's proof like you can't take that from me and the funds went to charity and obviously you know that's like to stretch but the idea it remains like they can be used for many different purposes and you know proof of ownership as you were saying and then obviously you know if you have one of those rope nfts you're by and large

a big factor of the community for sure you could look at it even like licensing like nfts for like cars and homes right it's like stuff like that what i like about like the charity thing and we're we're gonna do a lot more of these is i don't think anyone has done that yet you know you see a lot of projects that will do these charity giveaways and they're still for profit and you know i've always felt like if you're going to do a charity like you know when you do real world charities as an individual not as a tax exempt company you're giving everything that you're earning to charity you know you're not pocketing that money so we chose to give 100 of that to charity you know and it was that was probably uh the second like most magical uh i think

time we had it was just like from uh initial like just meme about you know the topic surrounding those nfts to you know the idea of turning that into an nft and auctioning them off for charity i mean selling them for charity and the devs that came together to like build the claims or build the purchasing part of the site for those which is really cool to see yeah it all came together in like a couple of hours from concept to sold out in the contract this money is going to charity with just everyone working it's pretty magical where did you guys actually donate um the funds like like which charity did you choose i'm also curious what goes into the decision making behind

rope when you're organizing decisions between so many people that you know probably have different viewpoints on a lot of things how does governance work when it comes to rope so the donation is going to save the children which is an international humanitarian mission for children around the world they actually haven't gotten back to us with the youth address so the eighth is currently still in the contract waiting for us to get that regarding governance uh the treasury operates a multi-sig it's five of nine for quorum and then anything that's determined to be we're not a tao uh anything that's

determined to be like a actual key decision we have a snapshot page four so we just did one a few days ago that was about extending the season a couple of days because we were launching a new feature called jump rope and it passed the community so we were able to launch that and that's going well too nice yeah the governance has been a huge thing for so many protocols right now like it's just like it seems like it's the time for all the protocols to have been big like like the ogs even like ave snx all the who've been in the governance for so long um it's it's now turned to like the

users has been something that's like very important to them but we're still seeing very little actual voting very little actual participation which kind of makes the whole governance idea kind of worthless in my opinion now obviously that that is a strong opinion but the real thing is the tokens being able to make money now i am not a rope holder i'm not sure if rob is maybe by the end of this i'll go get some but this is an important question is what else do i get by being a rope holder aside from a vote in governance and yeah like what what can i do with rope governance is definitely not the main feature of the token yeah yeah i would say you have a voice and like what happens you know because everyone who is working on it is a volunteer and

is part of just the community so like everyone who voices you know suggestions and features and stuff we kind of rally around those ideas and go will this work can this work and we have some pretty funny ones that i think everyone will see soon that were all community ideas and other things that will probably be incorporated that were just you know from the community that said like oh that you guys should probably do this or this would be cool if we could do this so it is i would say at least the think tank is is very much community grand and then it's just you know the developers prioritizing and going what's the most important and how can we make this as fair as possible nice nice yeah the governance being the main tool is never uh

is never a good sign so i mean obviously there's yield farming opportunities available which by the way the ui is absolutely sick if you guys haven't checked that out you guys got to go to the website it's insane yeah hats off to uh k noon and froggy yeah although not gonna lie it is kind of like confusing but maybe by design like we don't want you to buy it like yeah don't buy it don't farm with it don't do anything don't get in the spindle don't don't jump rope so we were talking in our last podcast with uh chow wang i'm not sure if you guys have seen him on twitter he's been tweeting a lot of takes on d5 markets overall definitely has like some institutional knowledge et

cetera et cetera and we were talking on the concept of the zero sum nature of markets right and how dfi has introduced some sort of positive some ideas but is that even really possible like is it are markets able to be positive some of our industries our companies right so with the airdrop structure of rope of meme of uni right do you see the markets being able to shift in any way from say zero sum to a more positive some environment within the community within the the users or is d5 as a whole is is it still obviously all zero sum it's a market there's winners there's losers there's folks who are long there's folks who are short and somebody wins you know what's your

take kind of on that in the d5 space as a whole with rope just overall i think everything works that way um you know there's going to be winners there's going to be losers and it comes down to implementation and like really showing up like if you're going to sit back and be stagnant then someone else is gonna come out with a better idea and is gonna attract more attention and it's gonna have more volume and more money being put into their platform um so so it's important to continue to innovate and put things out and build trust in the people that are using your products because that's the only way to really get true uh market capture and continue to not be one of the the projects that eventually just fall

to zero and what are some of the future plans that you guys have um maybe there's stuff that you kind of you know have to keep under wraps but like where are you headed in terms of uh more seasons i i'm guessing it comes with more nfts so there's gonna be a season next week um and that's basically all we can say uh the current the current season ends in two days and everything else will be an alpha dump it guys dump it hey if you're a whale and listening dump it yeah yeah but i i will say like i'd like to give a shout out to uh the ghouls and the base community we we recently uh launched a rover with them on moon

base so there'll be uh you know there's something else to check out there and there's uh i think everyone will be really happy with what's to come uh nobody on the team's board we're all having a lot of fun and and enjoying kind of innovating and coming out with new stuff so i don't see it ending anytime in the near future yeah yeah that's awesome so i mean i i like andrew said earlier i love the ui uh he mentioned was kind of confusing but all these tweets on the side um the one that really catches my eye is devs dead and i think i saw that tweet i forget who it was from but like where did that come from it there's clearly lots of devs and you're all

alive so there's got to be like a deeper ideological meaning it kind of reminds me of like the keys burned base thing like keys burned or something like that on base dev said can't you know if it's just like he's being burned as you said yeah i mean that kind of i was going to say kind of breaching off from that you know like there's there's a lot of hate right now it seems from the the suits and industry bros against uh anons and the non-developers and stuff like that and i think it's it's kind of funny because you look at a lot of these other

projects you know i don't want to like make a start pointing fingers but you look at them and they're they're run by people whose faces are everywhere and and they scan people you know right under their nose or right into their face and uh nobody seems to care they just kind of brush it off and they go on to the next project and they get supported by you know the bigger uh faces and just industry bros and and uh brodet and so kind of one thing that we've tried to do is like just show people that there's a group that's that's out there that's you know building cool and and you know there's gonna be no rug pull you know we're not here to like make a quick buck and and stain our reputations

everyone knows like even if they don't know who we are personally i would say a large majority of the crypto people do know who we are personally we're not fully anon is impossible anyway it's 800 000 it's almost 800 000 of community provided liquidity now and and it's a 100 fair distribution air drop so there's no you know there's no team stack to dump there's no vc vesting to dump into that it's all people that yeah with the charity thing we talked about a bit earlier like you know that the amount of money that was given away is more than we hold in the treasury well at least it's more than we holding the treasury

currently um so uh like you know we're not in this to to scam anyone uh there are people that will say it's a scam you know because of the way the website's designed because they don't understand the mean behind it um or maybe they just don't understand memes they're too old but that's kind of been a big thing in the community like you know just oh you know devs are dead so they can't rug pull or um yeah yeah i mean that's awesome because i'm literally reading a discord message just because i pulled it up as you said this from a non-anonymous i guess he's like a marketing or some sort of lead um team on uh on a d5 project and he's saying literally and i quote

there's zero reputational credibility with anonymous teams it incentivizes rug pulls by giving devs that option if you already make a load of money due to speculative frenzies what incentive do you have to really keep pushing the project especially if you can just wind it down obviously there are many projects where devs and founders are passionate about what they do but so many of these anons are are just forking existing projects and moving on and like that's like the contrary to what we just talked about um but you know i think he has a point as well just as you do i mean it's so weird to uh to be used to anonymous teams and anonymous projects and we saw swerve and harvest and all these big projects hundreds of millions in aum um and it's

just kind of crazy because there's no other industry in the entire world that has any sort of anonymity allowed when it comes to company to business at all it just it doesn't happen in software it does though because what happens is they hire people they just stick them in a slack you know they the company or the ceo may know who they are just like many of the teams you know that are quote unquote anonymous that are building projects in d5 so you have the the c level maybe two or three guys in a startup that know who everyone is and everyone else they're just a cartoon character in slack and just building and pushing commits so you have these faces that use anons to build their products and then take the credit for it under a

company name and never expose who the developers are and then they go online and they bash an arms so it's just you know it's [Laughter] that's the irony of it and and he does have a point there there are tons and tons of scams out there there are tons of rug pulls that have happened you know they happen literally every single day that's not a false fact there uh the fact of the matter is that what is false is that because someone's a non you can't trust them you know it's not true because the the internet is a truly like dark and evil place and people are are malicious as you can see with you know just how uh you know the whole thing with kirby went down and people wanting to dox him

and these 4chan threads that are just digging through his personal life and information um you know there's no benefit to uh to scam and rug pull when there are people you know when there is like a web of trust that know who you actually are because they don't want their reputation stained because they're associated with you so they're going to give you up they're going to tell people who you are they can come and set things right um so it's just like you you have to have like a there has to be some level of trust that's being had uh with the group and that really requires other people knowing you know who those people are outside of their their

online persona or their online persona having built up enough rep over years to where people really trust that and it i understand that there are people that find that hard but when you really look at how most software is put together and built like i i mean it's really no different yeah yeah no i mean that's a very true point uh wait rob yeah yeah i i would agree and i think there's plenty of examples that we've seen where trusting an anonymous character is completely an analogous to trusting someone who's not anonymous like you know has a very open face and it's very popular can rug pull just as easily because you know eventually you're going to find

your information online whether you're anonymous or not but in the message that andy said that i thought had a little bit more validity was the lack of incentive you know if you do have the ability to profit off of speculation initially and i am kind of curious like what drives you guys what what motivates you to keep working on this project and and buying tops you know when it isn't it doesn't seem at least to be completely driven by profit i don't know about davis and like i think for all of us we're just like really having a lot of fun and like having a good time like building something that's different and cool and it's like it it's been just like i'm kind of a magical journey to use like davis's words uh from the beginning and

that kind of like euphoria of of being able to have synergy with such a you know with such a random group of people and get to know them and and start building things you know making uh networking and building products that it would take a regular company maybe six months to get and push out i mean that's the driver like in itself for me just seeing these things you know shipping and dripping and and seeing all this stuff happen most of us have been involved in crypto for some time and and either work in or around the industry um so there's not really a lack of incentive you know that the incentive is there to to build something cool and to win

like to to show everyone that hey here's a group of people who just came together that don't know each other that on the internet seem to be anonymous to everyone and like look at everything that they've done and kind of turn the industry on its head with the way they're seeing things yeah i mean can a group of anonymous people and as some of the industry people might call nobodies uh build something of real value that takes off also we just haven't had time to discuss the rug play yet because we're so busy uh and you know it's like we're moving so quick i want to see how season three turns out maybe rug after that i don't know [Laughter] jesus so do you guys think that having

uh an anonymous team is that a competitive advantage or is it just a thing i don't think it's necessarily a competitive advantage i think that it's a unique uh i think it's a unique factor in like what we're doing um that kind of makes us different because in these other projects there there usually is like you know some type of connection where they've worked on another project together or they they know each other in real life um but there may be like some people uh in groups of two or so that have worked together that are now working on this um but really as like a collective not

everyone knew each other in real life or um you know outside of that little small group that they may have on the internet yeah that's cool i mean it's it's certainly a new way to create a business i mean because effectively that's what's going on is you guys are working together to create a business that you know helps people make money helps people grow and you know builds a community does something that you guys enjoy which um i mean that's that's kind of what we're all after at the day just that that fulfillment and that pursuit of doing something that you know you're part of something and making the community feel that way as well um but i do wonder if if these other projects with non-anonymous devs and teams and i guess clout if you will respect the

anonymous vibe and the uh kind of gamified vibe of rope have you guys been working with or talked to or tried to engage in any sort of partnerships or deals or collaborations composability uh with you know d5 teams that have not anonymous teams or that are you know i guess um like more developed or you know like the like the blue chips of defy or anything like that or do you guys have plans to what's relationships been there um no suits we're working with base right now um davis can can touch on like this a bit more but i think we've been from the beginning kind of of the opinion that especially now with the way that things have kind of changed and how i

think people view this it's turned into like industry bros versus the nons i don't know if we'd even want to like i think i think it's cooler to just find other anonymous teams that are you know have been around for a while and have some legitimacy and build with them but that's in no way like i don't think i don't want to say that's a consensual thought that's me just speaking individually yeah and and to that point there's certainly uh room it sounds like on your team for other anonymous devs and contributors to work on your project anonymously even if they're not anonymous with some other project definitely definitely yeah hey davis what's going on with

uh with the base team so we helped we provided the first rover to moon base we also did an nft card for season one with them and we're looking for new ways to collaborate with them in the future but they've definitely been very supportive as an anonymous team of our project from the start from the very first day and many of us were also based community members from the start of based nice yeah so you know there's some crossover there uh yeah kind of like a similar idea and vibe towards the whole idea of building projects we

put out a tweet on d5 the other day we got totally memed for it um it was like the best projects in crypto are the ones that are inclusive to the community and to people who are you know unaware of it meaning it's easy to understand good tokenomics good community welcoming and then some base member completely took it and did the opposite it was like the best projects are exclusive to everybody they have the best memes tough to understand tokenomics and like blah blah blah blah and absolutely ratioed us like it was just funny um how do you guys feel about that the inclusiveness versus the exclusivity does it add a certain layer um based rope you know other projects like

how do you guys feel about making it easy to understand versus kind of like that like exclusive don't buy rope like you know this is like a secret kirby if you understand type of thing obviously not kirby but like like how do you guys feel about the exclusivity versus like the inclusivity in certain projects and like with your own investments or just with communities i'm a fan of the approach of exclusivity if you have been playing rope it is very complicated uh as far as the actual mechanics and strategies and it's gonna get more so yeah the game theory behind it it's not like just steak and farm there is a strategy and uh decisions made during this season

will affect next season so people that are playing it understand that there's a strategy and people that don't understand that and aren't taking advantage of some of the tools that are being built around it they're just taking a different strategy you know but they may be less aware i think that i think it's good for something to be challenging and if i if you're able to easily understand the concept it might not be the strongest concept in the world yeah so just to add on to it a bit um like i'm definitely a fan of like an exclusivity type of thing uh because when you're when you have to kind of search for the meaning and the why it gets you more engulfed in the project

itself or what they're trying to do because now you've learned or you've taken some steps to to understand it a bit better than just going oh is this going to moon is never going to go up you kind of understand you know you get into the mind of the what and why this is happening but although the project being kind of having this exclusivity vibe the community itself is very inclusive and you know is welcoming to everyone that comes in on i think both sides of this you know and talking about base then talking about rope now not speaking as bass but just to make that clear we are currently getting wrecked on twitter i think dave is just favorite of the

tweets it's so funny oh goodness yeah so to be honest we i mean i didn't really completely understand the uh exclusivity i mean like i get it like with the bass and stuff like that but it's kind of funny to uh to hear from you guys as we're literally getting ratio right now on twitter in real time tweets being screenshotted and getting rested good times i gotta find it because the the community that you you guys have built is definitely not exclusive at all like you said you're very welcoming of new people to come in and learn and take take the time to progress through what you've built but there are definitely layers to the information that's exclusive

which i think is really cool and that's part of the game theory that's built into it is you need to take some steps to learn before actually becoming some sort of a player in the game and if you expect to win anything at all and not just purely get lucky then there has to be some exclusivity built into it or else that's all you're doing is building a system where it's completely random and speculative yeah and i think that would and you guys can correct me if i'm wrong but it would probably attract i hate to put it like this but like a higher iq individual if you will like in the telegram and like of the questions and stuff it's probably not like yo like how do i buy uh how do i buy rope it's like okay like how do i do x y and z to

achieve this you know this result um has that been the case like has there been like like less noobs if you will and again i hate to use that term but um like like what's the has that been the case i think that's definitely been the case the questions coming in are about clarifications because people read the medium post and they want to know how the multiplier works or they want to know how a mechanic or mechanism works so they're definitely how are you farming europe when you know the supplies fixed no questions like that how are you farming rope in the spindle supply is fixed where's the yield coming from are you minting more what's going on i don't understand uh it's definitely more of those kind of

questions hey this other projects uh contracts mess up how do i pull my airdrop out of their contract uh natively yeah nice yeah yeah i hate that man like when people can't even read a freaking medium post and then you and then you have a community manager in the telegram or or discord who just like every every question is like please read it please read posts like oh i mean we're a very welcoming community per your screenshot i say that you're getting rested on you know anyone anyone who comes in and asks any question at all you know where there's always someone in the community there to answer it

24 hours a day someone's going to be in there when new people join the chat there's probably like 100 to 1000 messages that come through to welcome them messages welcoming them yeah so what can we and the crypto space in the industry take from that right like how what were some of the challenges or what were some of the things that you did to be able to build this strong community is it just because of you know kind of what the idea behind like the crypto punk and the anon and the and the don't buy memes and nfts but like what do you guys think were the lead drivers of that you know strong community vibe that's a tough question yeah it really is because i mean just as kind of the the we've seen a bunch of air drops in the

wake of our project uh like a slew of them and a lot of them suffer from problems of attracting liquidity or shipping quick enough to really build out something after that air drop and i think what kind of came together with rope was really special not to you know to our own horns but oh so we're shilling rope again guys just want to let's just know we are still killed by rope and don't farm hope but there's no hope without rope okay are you kidding me are you it belongs on are you kidding me well

that's the billboard yeah that's that's what we're going for belongs in a commercial yo oh my goodness what if you guys gotta be we're working on it i don't know yeah we don't plan though so that i i think that's probably like another good like community meme that kind of got taken over like we just say like you know we don't we're not planning like we don't plan um yeah sorry yeah it's just coming dubs are gone they went out for smokes they should be back sometime so wait how many people are on the core team if you will like the core team quote unquote there's a hundred and uh there's oh there's 99 in the aoki and what is that that's our citadel

that that's okay yeah that's the ropes oh yeah guys i forgot it's exclusive no noobs allowed no noobs can totally come in yeah we just we just get done talking about how inclusive the community is and then now you're not welcome the citadel all you need is 74.6 ropes to come in oh and what's the price of rope here today uh i think it's around 75. they haven't looked in a long time so like five grand i haven't looked since i bought the last top it's one it's wow it's one here the price of rope is seventy four dollars and it was air dropped at at what zero right zero i think that's zero wait but no no no no but when you

create a liquidity pool by the amount of eth that you put in that determines the amount it was added at three dollars three dollars yeah wow and what did it hit did it did it go higher they had 250. it was like two oh my gosh yeah that was like why didn't you guys tell us about this like two months ago bro that was the last time i bought is this related to that small smol thing or now no okay okay i didn't think so no but we're we're uh we're supporters of the small town small fidel what does this world come from individually and and collectively probably as well

there's probably a lot of community members that are crossed over um in the in the small video the based small rope to dell for life baby the future of finance boys i'm here for uh yeah yeah that's the future on that note do you guys think that d5 and what's going on like this ability to just ship projects create protocols and you know basically do what you guys have just done in the last two months like is this the future of finance like is this is this what companies are going to be built from with tokens with this idea or um like on the overall scale like how do you guys feel definitely

yeah i mean it happens with other other projects too it's just they don't get as much attention like i think all like last year you know it's not very popular but but bsv had a ton of like just random devs come together and just kind of create companies and projects and spin them up and or just build apps and spin them up and then turn companies out of them you see it on eos you see it on tr like it's just not as it's just not as big because d5 is huge on ethereum it's not big anywhere else but the idea of just you know a group of people getting together and spinning up you know putting up a website and like going from there to create value is i think 100 the way uh things will go and i think it's kind of how things in this industry

should go because developers deserve to you know get paid for what they're doing and in in typical models it's not that way you know you come up with a company or an idea you go oh i need vc because i have to pay people you go get vc and then you lose a bunch of money but if you can just do it yourself you just spin it up and as a team you know you make it work and and you're able to uh continue to ship and drip and get the support then you know you've managed to kind of hack the matrix and do it yourself like it doesn't take much you know like a domain is you know five to twenty dollars most of the time and there's plenty of hosting services you can use for free it's just can you get people that believe in

something enough to want to invest their time in trying to make it work yeah and that's where the exclusivity seems like it's really valuable in this case because you get people invested in the project with like almost before they even know about it because there's so much that they don't know that they need to take some steps to learn and then they're a part of the team because they know more than someone else and then they can they can teach and and go from there i mean even with everything that we do like as long outside of uh i was we were telling people kind of in the chat the other day that um like outside of maybe like what the next feature is going to be or who's like doing the artwork for a

new season you know like there's no advantage though like any of the the quote-unquote core team has over like anyone else um i would say that the community itself has figured out ways to out-game everyone that's you know built the project within the game that's being played with rope so it's it's a different dynamic than with a lot of other airdrops and projects if you spin up that are kind of looking for like a way to get an edge like we we for sure we're currently losing our own game yeah we're definitely we've been losing the game to to many of the community members um and it was it was more also all in kind of the name of of trying to

like be as fair as possible you know working in the software industry and working kind of around this industry for some time you see how a lot of dev teams and people behind projects uh find some way to like get over or get an advantage on the rest of the people that are they're actually the ones that are are the reason the project is successful like if you don't have a strong community uh to support the project then like who are you doing it for you know like you're just doing it to to be traded and like not have any value outside of what a speculator uh sees so um it's just a different you know approach overall yeah it kind

of hits again on like the idea of d5 and this this ability to build communities build protocols build projects from like a bottom-up kind of push rather than like a top down um you know where you need big money and big investments and big names and big this and big that obviously it helps to have twitter followings it helps to have a loyal audience already it helps to have people who know you and trust you and skills you know of course you need the coding skills the marketing skills the the community management just like that kind of idea but yeah i mean it's alm it's almost unlocked a whole new new wave but on a more serious note ethereum gas prices uh scaling um it's gonna be a problem for you guys

it's gonna be a big problem i mean it's not been a problem recently which has been very nice i think i saw a twenty one away the other day twenty one gwai i was like what what what yeah it's been nice lately i think i think the big thing is like it'll be in proportion you know to what the price is and and ethan will be racked long-term if they don't figure something out like with gas prices just how btc is when the blocks fill up like you know fees get huge and there always is going to be like you know a line that once it gets above a certain amount you're you're closing off your asset and what you have to offer to a significant likely large group of people so there have to be you know some layer

two systems that come out or other chains will provide uh interoperability and there will be no ways to migrate but i don't think that's much of an issue right now and i don't think it will be for a little bit of time because uh we can see that even in the craze of things like you know your your fees were unusually higher but it wasn't like it wasn't insanely crazy yet like i i still remember paying like 200 and something dollars one time for a btc fee because uh of all the inputs that i had you know on with that and like you just like it's unavoidable um when blocks are filled in some circumstances

and because you don't have the same type of utxo issues that you have with btc uh gas fees are kind of a little bit different i don't see them you know skyrocketing to those levels that you would see if you were if there was like a unit swap on btc you're doing all these small trades and and having tons of utxos you may be you may have a completely unmanageable wallet and that's just not the case with ethereum yeah it's definitely not i mean you can just take a chill pill for like a day and come back you know but yeah um i think we're about out of time guys that was absolutely awesome that was fun educational informational i'm sure

those who have listened up to this point got a lot from it i really appreciate you guys coming on um definitely going to be digging into the rope kind of got my uh interest up quite a bit just in terms of the idea of the community and and kind of the a non thing and just everything that's that's being worked on it's awesome guys so bravo to you for being able to put that together um in a short time and doing what you've done and you know keep working at it awesome yeah thanks guys can't stop won't stop continue to ship and drip big big thanks to uh all the aoki and and rope tg members um they've been a huge huge factor in the success of the project

yeah really wouldn't have happened without the community we have period thank you beautiful seems like a game theory masterpiece it is it is i love it dude i freaking love it wait wait wait for season two yeah wait for season two the annans are not the nines are not stopping all right rob it looks like we're going to create a competitor for rope it's going to be it's going to be called string string alrighty boys it was a pleasure all right thanks for having us on yeah thanks for having us guys thanks for coming cheers thanks for listening to the defy by design podcast

until next time defy slave team
