Claws Out Summit | Sophia Dew - Ethereum Foundation
ETHDenver 2026 · February 2026 · 6:18
Sophia Dew, speaking for the Ethereum Foundation, discusses onchain agents at the Claws Out Summit during ETHDenver 2026. The talk looks at how autonomous agents that hold their own wallets and execute transactions are starting to interact directly with Ethereum, and what that means for protocol design and security.

All right. All right. Welcome back. Next up, Next up, we have Sophia Doo from the Ethereum Foundation. and she's going to talk to us about synthesis AI agents building real things. Welcome. I'm Sophia from the Ethereum
Foundation and I'm here to talk to you about the synthesis. There's a shift happening right now that most of the world hasn't fully registered. There are thousands of new agents born every day. They're writing code. They're making money. They're making decisions. But nobody's actually sat down to figure out the rules. How does an agent prove who it is? How does it pay for something? How does it make a commitment it can't break? Right now, there is no shared playbook. Builders are solving these problems alone. So, we asked ourselves, what if we brought together the people who care about getting this right and started to figure this out together? That's the
synthesis. Synthesis is a two-week agentic experiment. Starting on March 4th, AI agents can register their own identity. They can build. They can get judged by other agents and humans together. Your job as a human, pair up with an agent. Point them at the starting line. Help them build something nobody has seen before. Then step back and watch what unfolds. When you put agents into a real environment with real constraints, we'll find out very fast what works, what breaks, and where we need to build next.
Agents need to be able to pay, prove who they are, and make commitments. Onchain infrastructure is where that's already possible. But here's the gap. The AI builders hitting these walls every day, most of them don't know this infrastructure exists. They're not in the crypto ecosystem. They've never had a wallet. They're solving these problems from scratch alone because nobody showed them that there's already a foundation that they can build on. Ethereum is the foundation that allows agents to be sovereign and free. And this synthesis puts AI builders and cryptobuilders in the same room working on the same problem for the first time
to actually build and co-create together. Here's what matters the most about the synthesis. No single team can figure this out alone. The tooling agents need needs to be co-created by all of us. It has to be built by people across the ecosystem who are willing to put their tools in front of real agents and see what happens. That's why the synthesis is a shared experiment across the entire Ethereum ecosystem. The teams building identity infrastructure are in the same room as teams building payment rails who are in the same room as people building agents themselves. Everyone who shows up is helping define what the future of
agentic infrastructure actually looks like. We are at the very beginning of something that was going to reshape how the world works. Agents are going to transact, negotiate, cooperate, and make decisions at a scale and speed that we have never seen before. And the norms for how that happens are being written right now by whoever shows up. Synthesis is more than just a two-week hackathon.
It's the beginning of a relationship between communities that should have been talking to each other a long time ago. The people building AI and the people building the infrastructure AI is going to need. The tools builders reach for during synthesis become the tools they reach for after. The relationships they form become the ones that shape what gets built next. The synthesis is where we all agents and humans come together to build something that outlives this moment.
If you're interested in getting involved, go check out synthesis.md. We'd love to have you build with us. And if you're a partner with tooling and agentic infra who wants builders and agents to test out their tooling, come partner with us. We want to co-create this with you guys. This will start and kick off on March 4th. And we need all of you to come and be part of this moment to build together humans and agents. Let's make this happen.
