hello everybody um welcome um i want to talk to you guys about the decentralized future which is extremely vague and somewhat kind of title the the the real contrast i want to talk about is decentralized present what are we actually living in and what do we project out in the future and so i'm chrissy i'm a technologist and designer so i studied computer science but i've basically been doing product design in my entire career i work with a team about 20 20 30 people uh working on decentralized application frameworks so we're thinking about javascript thinking about the actual run time so that we can build competitive application to cloud application while being backed by blockchain so today i'm gonna talk to you a little bit about

just the landscape of you know when people ask you what's the use case of web3 that's the snarky thing that everybody says what's the use case and i think we argue that use cases replace all the centralized app that you use today with web3 alternative but there's a big asterisk and that asterisk i'm going into today so before we go in let's see if i can use this to navigate let's talk about a centralized present the centralized presence is fantastic your phone your apps look works great and if some something looks like this let me just use my uh facebook amazon alphabet fang i think it's now mam m-a-a-a-m like hi ma'am you own all my digital things these are all

the things you use every single day and they control more importantly than anything your device so you can't even install a wallet that does anything unless apple or google agrees that's what we are and you know on xbox and everything else basically your on-ramp to the technology world is gated by these companies as far as content is concerned i don't care if you do text images video audio mixed media 3d ar and vr and ai these are the companies that controls how you reach your audience pretty much that is the case right you can't really get to any of your audience without going through this intermediary so they control your content and your audience and your monetization go to work

slack sells for shopify swift stripe squares sap for god forbid if you do manufacturing um just press s a lot of times and you'll find out all the sas company that is actually controlling everything you do monetize your connection allowing you to make money and you know gracefully giving you access to the software for 200 a month that's how much your company is paying for some of these software so when they say but we are so in love with nft and web 3.

all they're basically saying is here's a gold star have an nft trust us we're going to be good to you you can trust us with your decent digital future do i really trust them do i trust those companies that controls everything to define what web 3 is going to be just because they're going to mean some nft of your childhood characters i don't think so so when everybody is saying that we're going to do web3 integration everybody's like oh that is the mass market adoption moment because disney's minting some nft you know to me that's just integrating some web3 meh not really what is most interesting to me and that's what i want to talk to you guys about is what can we do to augment the web3 stack so that we can

integrate with web 2. who is the boss here web 3 is the boss web 2 is just supporting infrastructure it's great it's a cloud it's mobile it's programming language like javascript and python it's millions of developers but they are now left out of what we call web 3. when we talk about web 3 we're talking about people in this building plus maybe 10 000 people it's not a lot so how do we invert this so what do we do here so the decentralized future as as that title is going to be it's really what we're aiming to be what we're aiming to go and the way we're going to do it is to ask these questions can you rebuild tripe payment accounting compliance on the web3 stack

the answer is getting closer right with stablecoin with layer 2 faster transaction time you could do this exchange rates coming from oracle like chain link and other places computation maybe can you rebuild shopify on the web3 stack okay a skew a scop stock compute unit can be an nft you can set prices on it could be on chain contract you could have refund escrow account and smart contract getting there we can add to that can you rebuild swift on the web3 stack the actual movement of fund across international boundary i think it's fantastic i think we have it already where's the banking connection where's the compliance with the web 2 integration with the banks maybe can we

do that we can get there some some good banks like circle and maybe other places in switzerland like second amendment they're open to integrating with on-chain settlement protocol that that is probably better and cheaper than swift can we replace salesforce with web3 stack what it sells for it's a database that you can add your new field to add ui and create your own custom application could we do that maybe but that requires more innovation on the front end than than in the back end that we have now can we replace sap which is the accounting system allowing companies to know how much they got paid and the answer is it's actually fantastic to have something called triple entry accounting when you use a blockchain application i use a blockchain application and you pay me on chain i

can both reconcile both our database to know that we paid each other instead of having to go to sap and say reconcile reconcile reconcile on your bank record from a csv file it is better to use web3 as a reconciliation so the answer is yes but most people would say leo or something like this like oh you can't do it today and again not just on blockchain but as blockchain is a part but we would need a fuller stack what does that fuller stack look like what else is missing in our stack of web3 stack to make this happen and i'm not going to repeat this so this is the generic current evm stack you have a blockchain smart contract some off-chain service like subgraph oracles and an off-chain storage like filecoin

the dap the wallet all important many talks will talk about that but i'm going to talk about what's missing and what i think is missing is cloud infrastructure to be able to decentralize and reuse what exists in the cloud stack javascript microservices and see if we can do that in a more decentralized way with the emphasis of adding these four things to the stack which is missing that's preventing us from replacing the ss sss sas with the web3 alternative one is private indexing annotation and search so right now we have the graph which allows for public indexing so like getting something on the public ledger and making it more accessible but what about your own wallet which one is tag

which who did you pay what is the memo field how do you reconcile it within your own company on cost center that's what salesforce in sap does where does that data go you need a private database you can search it you can share it and that means that you need workflow what happens if i want to schedule a payment how do you even do that do you have to have wake someone else say hey do you have the treasure can you go go do this could we automate this delegated administration this sounds like so boring but when you're talking about companies who are using slack and salesforce and they want to know that i give you permission you have certain access and visibility you can revoke when you quit the company how do we do that i mean there are ways to do that but that's missing right now because if

we can delegate users using multisect to access then we can use wallet gated access to certain features or you don't have access to employee record because you don't work for hr how do we define that can we make sure that say hey i actually work for hr and binance really oh you have a multi-stick on that wallet that i trust you could we do that yes i think we can and finally data science machine learning eric talked about that he's like data analysis is missing you know our algorithmic thing is not there we have the on chain state we have off chain storage ceramic is great but can we use analysis right now this analysis on blockchain is only for rich people chain analysis for government to track you down you buy pay financing you can figure out who is trading what an ft but

none of that information helps the the web 3 it just helps a person paying for that subscription so what we should do is to take that information from this data science and write it back on train using automation using miracle proofs so we're going round trip taking the information we get from the blockchain distilling correlated and then gate the access site your top one customer of my company and therefore without buying an nft you now have gated access to the next drop or next discount you could do that we have the technology to do that and that's precisely what we decided to do at cardstack let's work on these problems which is from the web field we came from the web 2 field coming into web3 and seeing this great ability but

missing this capability and what we brought in there is super boring right it's adding a database technology that you can run you can own deploying your own server doing your indexing correlating your your portfolio without that data leaking to anybody else because it's private data that you control on your node it's using node.js and these tools to automate integration with different stack and your bank and your apis and stuff like that with on-chain information being a trigger or in some cases triggering on chain information its ability for you to use machine learning to basically analyze who your best customers and what's the risk you do and then have that modified either on chain or off-chain behavior and finally it's using notes to save which is where safeguarding very proud

to be as the multisig infrastructure the model the internal address book of your company so using the multi-sig structure parts otherwise that is your own personal uh company directory visible to the world who represent whom so no more scam it's not just enns name of what you paid imminent is actually what's delegated by your company that's trusted and signed and that delegates down and we have an application on the app store and google play that uses the no sense infrastructure in an easy to use ios and mobile application that makes that happen the great thing is i'm not going to say that we're going to build a decentralized feature if all of these great tools is a subscription service the entire thing including the ui to the

middleware is open source mit license and you can get at github.com site's class like we've been working on it for four years and it's a really hard problem to think about decentralization in the lens of building end-use application using cloud technology while integrating web three in the back so we also have a wallet if you search for that it's not exactly the wallet we want but has noses save in it and allows you to do like wechat page with transaction with gases transaction using losses relay it's really cool but that's the basic architecture so in conclusion we want to accelerate the great migration from web to the web three and one way to do it is to wait for slack to migrate to web three the other one is a that's never gonna happen

what we need to do is to accelerate by using the infrastructure of crypto as trading funding and the dab infrastructure we have today but focus on all of these web 2 use cases of inspiration it's not really something that intimidating we use this app we know what the features are but using this fuller stack using the innovation that's happening in this building right now to aim to redesign rebuild and replace every single one of the features inside this logo with the web3 alternative so leo the web 3 use case an application it's a super set of the web 3 app web 2 use case and application and that's the

key that's our ambition not just nft dial and define one more thing it's everything you saw in the logos with that because that's how centralized present that we need to topple to create the design drives future so we have the framework to allow you to compose but there's no way we can go and fund all of these things but you know what if we break down these things to his component the same way we just we broke down tokens and nft into his component using the eip process couldn't we go ahead and come down and break down what actually is in web 2 what are the features enterprise resource planning what's in it legal structure financial report membership purchases non-fundable token things like that so we're going to

hopefully work on together on this list of all the components that exist in web 2 that must exist in web 3 and come up with a standard for it take an eip process and we couldn't do it alone we want to do it as a dow so let's do it let's dial it let's come up with the standard so that we can decide what is the new schema and structure so that these new components are not owned by salesforce your customer is not inside salesforce your customer is an eip like record that is supported by any system to support this version of customer fluidly move back back and forth it's private communication if necessary public record anchor when necessary and i think that's what we are able to do

and thank you very much for your time [Applause]
