Chiang Mai Dapps 2/11/20 - ETC "Why? Just... Why?" Chris Hitchcott

Chiang Mai Dapps Meetups · 17 Feb 2020 · 10:18

Chris Hitchcott gives a short case for Ethereum Classic, recounting the mid-2016 contract incident behind the chain split and calling the intervention a bad precedent. He presents Classic as the original chain rather than a copy, built around immutability and censorship resistance, with no leader or foundation able to call the shots. He also raises concerns, among them a possible identity crisis within the Classic community and what he describes as game-theoretic problems with proof of stake.

my topic of choice is boys et Cie so I am gonna show a PCS day for the love of the ring because is there's people it's not dead and it's going places I'll go quickly over the origins of it why it exists the controversy surrounding it it's philosophy and we're so probably most of you know about theory I guess the the original title on the ether website was built on topical applications not what drew me to it it was the spirit

immutability and unstoppable and applications of an exactly the program without downtime but what happens like different in mid-2016 there was a contract of theoretical risk and the end result was that it was and via classic things that happened so is the signal

whether or not the default settings in get which is the main theorem client should be it was a bad precedent because in a future people can be like well if he did the dev and ye do the other weird thing that went on was the group that secured the 7% of funds aka Robin Hood group managed to seven percent before the hardcore so that would be fine they spoke with anarchic anyway the problem was that they stopped it they stopped what would have got the rest of the funds back on the et Cie chain because they're in control of the keys

that are going to do that they then kind of those funds over after the hard core that you see those two another group called white hand group which is way more anonymous there's only like one or two people living there they are but we do know that various associations pocket who are the creator the doubt process at this point white hat group attempted to jump for etc' on to Polonius and several other exchanges after tumblr which I didn't notice and luckily there's tons of frozen they then decided to refund those funds to people using a with pro contract okay so they got caught trying to sell it and then decide to give it back and as of today

there's still over a million little contract not played so philosophy what it's really about is the original theater vision which was the soft black occasions in fact we took the exact wording on the classic roadside because that's what it's really about about censorship resistance and not being able to determine the divide third violence this is literally what was on the original through most right now this is the way I think the original chain and the attendant classic wore a lot during the walk a lot of a lot of loud voices were saying that they placidly the scam it's

just there to confuse people but unlike something like a Bitcoin cash it was the original chain not a full copy velocipede centralized move unstoppable there is no leader in a new classic it's a bit like Bitcoin but it's no Satoshi while Satoshi doesn't exist but the theorem is a foundation that can call the shots do bad things like quick rundown of a classic so notable ones if there is no proof of work is big but the scalability thing is the most important

thing like aetherium main net is trying to scale using proofs taking multiple shots and stuff but in my opinion that's a bad way to scale because the everyone scale is layer two so to put it visually this is how I describe a classic Bitcoin has the proof of works from the foundation if there even has a small contract usability you put it together to get that good grades where are we today there's dozens of developers working out their classic not as many as the theorem I met but there are some big names there and some of them are from the ethereal foundation himself there's switch size

or at least helping out and of course all the stuff that's happening on theory can also be employed over there's multiple summits that have happened the lakes in Vancouver and these are all their activity things that have happened there's been multiple reports on dinner classic or protocol upgrades which is okay and easy recipe so people say that any one fork goes against immutability with us misunderstanding so this is the controversial part and the next slide might trigger some fear in people this is why I think might happen during during 2.0 because it's a very ambitious

project and it could problem doesn't really have a cohesive gossipy like this this was a big asking what happens if there's a down like incident and there isn't really consensus there which is problematic so my assertion is that it has an identity crisis within the community a big problem and will that cause another doubt I can't afford we don't it's very classic that's death you're not going to happen but in authority and of course a lot of issues I think we work is way gonna put a snake it's more secure they're a major game theoretical

problems with proof of state that's quite technical I can get like it's also that's a bunch of on primer we're just talking about state robot theory and this is a major problem that for a theory people it's solved by proof of stake right forget about it just for training we'll fix it later but I don't think that's a good a good answer et Cie is able to lower the gas limit and there are other interesting ways of doing that smaller box a better long-term sustainability the transaction the transition from one to two is going to be a nightmare basically they're going to have to maintain two clients with the same value point so kind of but it's changed to

support but have their own crisis right so how that works going forward I'm not sure in my opinion there's also an issue with like a long-running contract so if today I left in 100 F into a contract I could get out in 10 years time they're gonna have to support that for the next 10 years and I I will be very quickly rounding the surface of Britons to BTC my answer to them he does not have many doubts that's true it does enough some but the nice thing in the contracts can be very easily migrated soon that's gonna have you guys walk and points and class

doesn't have a network effect which is kind of true but networks important but it's not the be all and end all I think if if for example at shoots itself in the foot then through classic is Plan B or Plan C and eventually it will be the biggest proof works not come for a platform because the others so it will have a network effect of some sort the classic didn't have that before this happened everyone thought it did you want to sin attack happens then it will destroy the Train workers but turns out price was pretty much unaffected yes some exchange lost a

bit of money they it makes just increase their conformation times and that's what confirmations are forward just change the way you think about every 1% tax to be between the receiver and the sender and the whole networks okay as long as you have enough confirmation space so they're a classic one hand badger these are things that they've come and
