Can we achieve On-Chain Truth?
ETH Tbilisi 04 · December 2025 · 4:31
Cathy of the Ethereum Community Fund debates the challenge of achieving collective truth on-chain, asking whether open communities can curate reliable information about Web3 projects. The clip follows her Pensieve talk at ETH Tbilisi 04. The exchange asks how trust in shared information can be built without a central arbiter.

Uh okay. Okay. Thank you. And uh one more question maybe it's more about like the uh verifications you have on your platform like uh what do you think uh how you fight with the cases where the like thousands of people they just collaborate to push the fake information? Maybe have some mechanism just uh not to create this fake news uh fake uh fake articles and other stuff. How you fight with that? [snorts] Uh I think you you cutting off your words but I think your question is that what if some of the uh some of the information being manipulated or collusion by a bunch of people to have a fake to have a fake
>> because uh they just can make some article make some this uh proposals about uh faking information or just uh like to be to create some fishing websites like unis swap and other stuff. >> Yes. So uh with the like with the current u mechanism that we are actually uh first of all we don't care about whether you are unique person or not. You can come to the project uh come to the platform to create of create different identities but the mechanism itself it um like the item weight will raise once the uh like the the other
like it were replaced as the same as the leading proposers it uh CP so the item weight will be higher and higher which means it will be more difficult to change when more when like more CPS come to this item to uh like to having an eye on it to to uh to be here to challenge that >> repeating the question that speaker asked before because I quite didn't understand it very well. Uh so let's say there is a well-funded organization with lot of resources. What's stopping them from manipulating
uh this platform like they like they have done with Wikipedia for example? >> Uh what do you mean those wellunded projects? >> Well, let's say there are many organizations even government funded organizations that their sole purpose is to make some type of a narrative right make some type of a story manipulate some things. And we have seen this with Wikipedia over the years, some political stuff and so on with wars and stuff. So if they decide to attack your platform with lot of resources to change some information there that fits their agenda, how are you yourself?
>> That means that we need to be compromised. But I I don't think this mechanism is designed to be compromised because it it it's not the project uh itself come to the come to the platform to create their own project. It's it's it's like anyone from the community they can create their project. to the extreme case. Uh if the project like like you said a wellfunded uh with political agenda projects who want to publish some like certain information to their interest. [snorts] Of course they can
they can come to our platform to create their uh own version of the project page but still uh the like the the other community members they can create another project p uh another project page with the as a as the same as with the same name as a project uh created by by the organization. So there's community version and the project uh and the organiz organization version.
So uh we so with the current design we have we we don't um even with the project name we don't exclude um like the same uh project the same name same project name for
