so i have the pleasure of welcoming saro mckenna for this first session in the track um very excited swiss-born top game in the world with 7.6 million users but i let her talk to it so the floor is yours hi everybody so it's uh this room is talking about real world applications of crypto right so um i think our predecessor was saying that it was important to identify those use cases and perhaps was struggling a little bit at times to identify what that what a metric for that might be so i would say that one good measure for real use cases of blockchain applications are users right

number of users is a pretty good way of ascertaining whether the technology is finding meaning in people's lives and gaming applications right now in blockchain are experiencing extremely large user numbers so we are the so i'm sarah mckenna from alien worlds we are the largest uh blockchain game in the world by users so those of you with your phones in your hands you can go to dappradar.com onto the game ranking and you can see that we're the number one game in that ranking i think in fact we're the number two dap overall um after pancake swap okay so just a quick um

kind of what what are we what are our pillars we're an nft and dao metaverse and our construction is almost entirely on chain which is fairly unique that time we were the number two game now we're in the number one game oh this is interesting and the metaverse things are upside down uh we're gonna go through most of those topics pretty quickly anyway so um let's just power through quick snapshot of our tokenomics you can see this on our technical blueprint on the website um and elsewhere this just shows so the play to earn rewards are really crucial in a in a play to earn metaverse right

so these are emanating from inflation they flow through in our case to planet daos so we have six dows that are in competition with each other for the play to earn rewards so it's competing as teams for play to earn rewards we also have land nfts which are located on each planet and players use land nfts and tool nfts to mine and then they use trillium the fungible token of the metaverse to stake into the planet daos for governance control so i referenced before our almost entirely on chain uh construction fairly unique and extremely powerful this shows the different accounts and

smart contracts that are governing the mining game which is our largest game this is on the wax block chain [Music] just kind of to give you a sense of you know the architecture that's residing on a public blockchain which allows other users to call smart contract actions into our smart contracts which basically allows other developers to build into the game in a highly scalable way okay so i've got a bunch of sort of concepts and so on in here but i think the main the point that i want to get across here and i think the reason why you guys are in the room is that what we're experiencing in game fi right now is a really scalable application of crypto right this is why we're seeing millions and

millions of users in these particular applications other than in gaming the places in the blockchain industry that we're seeing those user numbers are on exchanges right and whether decentralized or centralized exchanges other than that we're not really seeing millions of users in in dapps right now so you know really great way that blockchain technology is reaching millions of people right now and in fact at alien worlds we're using our massive scale to teach people about blockchain technology about keeping your private keys about governance about creating dows and working together within daos to

play to earn but also just to fulfill that community's goals okay so quick rundown of meta versus a digital space where peer-to-peer transactions happen in a single environment the peer-to-peer nature of the actions and interactions that happen in the metaverse is really fundamental and it's what web3 is really describing right is the co-ownership of a platform because of the co-ownership of the tokens that describe the platform and therefore the peer-to-peer actions and interactions that happen on chain which is in contra distinction to web 2 platforms where all of the interactions go through the platform and and that's where also the value capture is

okay so you know games this massive um application of crypto right now and and the metaverse but the metaverse is more than just gaming and probably will become even more than just gaming over time but right now the largest metaverses are gaming metaverses like alien worlds but within that there's a diversity of of activity that's happening and that's because of the co-ownership of the system by the users so once you have users as co-owners they're incentivized to make more of the platform than than just being passive recipients of whatever the creators initially intended right once you're a co-owner of a platform you're incentivized to create new things

new business models sell to other people in the metaverse create your own telegram and discord channels and websites and so on which we have a proliferation of in alien worlds we were in fact quite surprised to see how quickly that arose when we launched the game multiple channels and websites that we didn't found and the reason for it was that we weren't the only owners of the system right there were literally other people who were highly economically incentivized to progress their position within the metaverse and they took an entrepreneurial position okay so the key feature of play to earn gaming that uh tokens of value are being earned by the user right so tokens that have provable

that are provably the users and that don't expire if the platform dies so do does that have to be built on a blockchain well essentially the assets that the user is earning have to be assets that they're ascribing value to and assets that reside on a blockchain have more value in the eyes of users and should have more value than than just assets that are residing within a walled garden so trustlessness a core feature of blockchain technology and it's what's giving value to those nfts and the fungible tokens and of course inflation isn't doing anything for fiat is it right now

you know there's more reasons than just the trustlessness of crypto it's also that you know the fiat system is under stress right now um because it's not governed by smart contract okay um so i referenced before uh our on-chain construction and here what this is drawing out is that so we're asking do play to earn games have to be built on a blockchain like what's the relationship between blockchain technology and playturn and in the proceeding slide i was talking about the assets having provable value because they're assets that reside on a blockchain here i'm talking about the construction and the fact that with an on-chain construction other developers can build into your architecture without your permission right i mean there's no

even concept of permission in that context so other developers can build apis that plug into your smart contracts or if you build the apis other developers can build applications that then plug into those and this is an incredibly scaled scalable way of technically extending adapt so by building more of your architecture on chain you allow more interoperability essentially or more other developers being able to add value to the system and of course they're incentivized to do that because they're co-owners of the system because they own the token with you very very significant feature of building on chain it's basically saying the same thing

okay so you might encounter this objection from people and in fact you may feel it if you're playing uh play to earn games right now that they're not necessarily that fun right sometimes they're a bit repetitive so i would invite so firstly they should be fun and this is probably something that we're all working on is you know creating deeper mechanics and more richness all the time but the other thing that i would mention and in our case we do have a very fun um system um so we have a series of nfts that are um that contain a lot of richness and play if you if you go into youtube and you um search for alienworld mining rig you will find countless users talking about

their optimal mining rig that they use the nf the land nfts and tool entities that they're selecting to for their strategy in alien world and they go into chat rooms to talk about this extensively they design their strategies they iterate their strategies and so on so we've designed a series of nfts that has a lot of richness in them and and that creates this ability for people to go kind of really deep into the game but the second thing i would say is that there is a bit of a dynamic i mean conceding a little bit to this point there's a little bit of a dynamic that's happening in the metaverse which is that there is a convergence of work and leisure right so because people are earning from what they're doing i mean that has a bit of a quality of work to it as well or enterprise but let's look

more deeply at that people are co-owners of the system so of course they're willing to invest their labor in the system because they're extracting something out of it too i think that that's very positive they're expressing entrepreneurial capabilities they're growing those entrepreneurial capabilities they're networking with each other to create business propositions that's actually all very fun especially when it's being done in a context that's a little bit more de-risked perhaps than just life right so people are getting to try out creating things and selling things in an environment that's a little bit less complex than the whole real world but that still is um competitive enough and complex enough that it's challenging and interesting

for them so there is a bit of a convergence of work and leisure going on but that's actually i think adding to the fun or at least the richness and value that people are getting out of their experiences in the metaverse right now okay finally i think really the fundamental thing to take away from all this is that what's happening in the metaverse is co-ownership of the system because of the ownership of tokens okay so web 2 platforms are owned by whoever created them and they're the people that are going to monetize that position at best what we might have is that middle part of the slide where a few kind of super users are monetizing a position a little bit by becoming influencers right that's the best a user can do within a

web 2 context is become like even better at sharing content i would say that that's not great if that's the best you can do that's not a very empowered position to have in an economic system whereas in web 3 systems which is over to the right a fully decentralized circular system where users are co-owners they're engaging peer-to-peer and bilaterally they're extracting value they're building value they are expressing governance control in proportion to their stake that's an empowered place for users to be and it's a highly scalable and extremely economically vibrant economic

environment to have created because all of those users are interacting with each other there's the potential for value capture in that there's the potential for value generation okay finally i think i'll leave you with the the thought that we're we're you know that we're in a progression of what tokens can do so this is the concept of utility right as opposed to speculation we have fungible tokens that express power rewards take value in a system we have nfts that represent unique objects in a system also very useful to be able to represent and we have dows daos are tokenized on chain entities that represent a team or a group of people and are governed by smart contract

very powerful i would say possibly even more powerful conceptually than nfts right i mean nfts are cool they represent unique objects but how about being able to represent people groups of people who share a common economic purpose a team in alien worlds they're playing to earn as a team and there is a token underpinning every single dow a tradable token that can express the value of that dow so that's i think kind of the why doesn't the next day these are some of the token flows that daos can be engaging in between each other again value capture happening at every single one of these transactional flows so this is a bit of a view from inside the world's largest metaverse by users

dappradar.com and uh looking forward to chatting with you all during the break and later on thank you thank you sarah did you since you have a minute left did you want to take a question one minute left i've never done it so quickly yes the german i'll repeat your question you mentioned the game yeah maybe let's do a show of hands who

is using the metaverse that's pretty good yeah so i think actually the first thing to say about that one of the things that's so great about the metaverse economy is that it's very agnostic as to the person's identity in fact most of the time we don't even know the person's identity right and this is one of the things about blockchain systems is we take in people's accounts like their blockchain account credentialized through a wallet but um we don't know

who they are and i like that so i actually can't tell you conclusively i mean i can tell you impressionistically from having met many of our users but um i know that we have lots of different ages represented in the game and lots of different types of people um about the the um the capacity for different people to invest in the system you know what's more important is that they can invest their labor than their financial capital because we're still at the user acquisition and growth phase you know monetization is coming but i think one of the issues in crypto was that we monetized very early i mean how many projects have massive market caps and almost no users isn't that a weird disconnect whereas what

we're seeing now in game five is i think a much more healthy ratio where we have lots of users and sometimes more modest market caps sometimes very big market caps so i think that you know whether people are investing their labor and their time is actually probably more significant for the long-term trajectory of this space because ultimately you can you can monetize the system where you've got lots of highly evangelical users like we do i'm not concerned about that i think that what's more interesting is are people finding it interesting to spend hours and hours and hours of their lives in these spaces and they are interesting thank you thanks sarah thank you
