Joseph Poon

Joseph Poon is a co-founder of Lightning Labs, the company built around the Bitcoin Lightning Network he helped design. He co-authored the Lightning Network whitepaper with Thaddeus Dryja in January 2016, proposing off-chain, bidirectional payment channels for faster and cheaper Bitcoin transactions. In 2017 he co-authored the Plasma paper with Vitalik Buterin, an early framework for scaling Ethereum through child chains that offload state updates from the main chain. His talk in the ETV catalog, on MEV mitigation strategies specific to layer twos at Devcon SEA, continues that same line of layer-2 scaling work he helped originate for both Bitcoin and Ethereum.
