John Adler

John Adler is a blockchain researcher best known as a co-founder of Celestia, the first modular data availability network, and of Fuel Labs, which builds the Fuel modular execution layer, where he serves as chief research officer for both projects. He is frequently credited as the inventor of optimistic rollups, the scaling design that underpins much of Ethereum's layer 2 ecosystem, and Fuel v1 was the first optimistic rollup deployed to Ethereum mainnet. Before founding Fuel and Celestia he worked on layer 2 scalability research at ConsenSys, covering Plasma and state channels, following graduate research at the University of Toronto. He is a leading voice for the "modular blockchains" thesis that separates execution, consensus, and data availability into specialized layers.
