Balaji Srinivasan

Balaji Srinivasan is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and author best known as the former CTO of Coinbase, a former general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, and the writer of The Network State, a bestselling book proposing that online communities could crowdfund territory and grow into new polities. He co-founded the genetic testing company Counsyl (acquired by Myriad Genetics for $375 million), the Bitcoin venture that became Earn.com (acquired by Coinbase in 2018, which made him its first CTO), Teleport, and the crypto policy nonprofit Coin Center. Holding a BS, MS, and PhD in Electrical Engineering plus an MS in Chemical Engineering from Stanford, he once taught statistics and data mining there, and he has been an early investor in Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, OpenSea, and Alchemy among many others. In 2024 he acquired an island near Singapore to host the Network School, a physical prototype of his network state ideas, and his 2023 million-dollar bet on rapid dollar hyperinflation became one of the most debated wagers in crypto history.
