Ariel Gabizon

Ariel Gabizon is a cryptographer who serves as Chief Scientist at Aztec Labs, the team behind the privacy-first Ethereum Layer 2. He is best known as a co-author of PLONK, the 2019 paper (with Zachary Williamson and Oana Ciobotaru) that introduced one of the most widely used zk-SNARK proving systems in the industry. After earning a PhD in theoretical computer science at the Weizmann Institute, he worked in Eli Ben-Sasson's lab during the early development of STARKs, contributed to the first deployment of zero-knowledge technology at Zcash, and helped discover a counterfeiting vulnerability in the zk-SNARK Zcash originally used. His later research spans polynomial commitment schemes (SHPLONK, FFLONK), lookup protocols (Plookup, cq), and folding schemes (ProtoGalaxy).
