Andre Cronje

Andre Cronje is a South African software developer who became one of DeFi's defining figures during the 2020 "DeFi summer" as the creator of Yearn Finance, whose fairly launched YFI token and automated yield strategies made him a folk hero of the space. He also created Keep3r Network and served as the technical architect behind Fantom, later Sonic, famously stepping back from public DeFi work in 2022 before returning. His career has mixed celebrated innovation with controversy, including his "test in prod" approach and the collapsed Solidly experiment. His current focus is Flying Tulip, an on-chain financial marketplace combining spot, derivatives, lending, and a native stablecoin, which raised $200 million in 2025.
